Default drag racing with coolant question

Our local track has started demanding no antifreeze in cars on track. I know it can be difficult to clean up like any spilled oil. My question is on street cars will this hurt to run straight water? I have a iron block and aluminum heads and just concerns me some. Any further info appreciated

it will not hurt it. antifreeze is impossible to clean up all the way, that is why they are so strict about it.

Agree will not hurt your car. Add a bottle of water wetter may help. With you living in MS doubt you'll freeze during the winter - but you may want to change out once you're done racing for the year - if that ever happens in MS

the car will be fine. Up here in CT, I run strait water all summer, but at the end of the year I drain the radiator, fill it with strait coolant and just circulate teh elec pumpfor 10 min to mix it all in the motor, then in the spring it gets flushed out really good and strait water goes back in.

I haven't used any water wetter at all so far and have no problems with the car getting hot (stock radiator, 35gpm elec pump with no t-stat) but I am going to switch to a smaller radiator, which may or may not need the water wetter to keep the car cool... have to see once it's in the car.

At the Pinks All Out event, Rich instructed, that anyone caught using antifreeze would be banned for life from any event he puts on. It is such a PITA to clean, especially at an event that is recorded, they are such a time frame.

Only problem with running tap water is the corrossion, if this is in a DD of course, unless you run distilled water.

At Englishtown as long as you drive to the track (no trailor) the antifreeze is allowed.

How would I go about draining ALL of the coolant mix to run straight water? If I only drain the radiator, won't the coolant in the block mix with it when I run it again? Or do I have to just keep repeating the process until it's pretty much only water?

There should be some pipe plugs at the bottom of each side of the block. Jack the car up, unscrew them and let it drain. Wear safety glasses as coolant isn't friendly with the eyes.

That's how I do it. I crack the bottom open so it's draining, start the elec pump (or you could start the car if you don't have an elec pump) and just fill the radiator as the car is running with water.... just continue until you're getting clean water out the bottom. with a friend to help it's pretty simple, and takes about 15 min.

Just have a couple 5 gallon containers and a way to "dispose" of the coolant.

.

Everyone should use straight water, if you drive to the track or not. Even if they allow coolant.
It's safer if you run over it & it's doesn't take the crew forever to burn off if someone leaks.
I myself only used distilled water, but I'm way out & the well water is the worst crap you ever saw.
