27" M\T ET streets, anyone using them?
Right now I am going through the traps at 134 mph on the rev limiter using 26X11.50X16 Et streets. I need a little more cushion on the top end. I like the ET streets and want to go larger. I have 2 choices a 27X10.50X16 or a 28x11.50x16. The 27" would be perfect MPH wise, but it is not as wide and I am not sure how that will affect me. I am doing 1.6 60's on the 26" tires with no spinning, will the 27" hook that good? I know a lot of guys are running the 28" tire, but I am afraid I might be leaving too much on the track. the 28" tire will put me going through the traps at 6300 RPM, the 27s at 6500 RPM, the rev limiter is set at 6800.
Thoughts?
Thanks for the help
Chris
BTW the car is an 02 Z06 with a NOVI 2000, 3.90 gears, MN12 tranny.

that is the tires i have and they hook pretty good for me( 1.63 with minimal suspension mods) but i will probably step up to a 28" since i will spray it a few times. the 27 will have alittle more sudewall and i would think the actual contact patch would be close to the 26" so i'd say it should hook up very similar. where do you race at when you go, b b ?

I hope the 27" is good for some 1.5 60's. I want to better my 60' a little and hopefully dip into the 10s.
BTW I go up to Beech Bend, not the best track but it is close. They start test & tune on March 1, so I need to get a tire before then. Maybe I'll run into you up there sometime.

i raced there on the last tnt they had last year and ran a car ( thinking silver supercharged zo6) like yours that pulled me pretty good on the big end with a 13x trap at deep 11s. i think. i am hoping for a little better 60' myself to get 10's on motor then see what it will do on the hose.

Anyone else have thoughts on the 27" tire?

Might look into some 27x11.5 hoosier qtp dot's, people have had good luck with them, here's an example, page 3 and 4 of this thread...

I'm going to run either them or MT et street radials in a 275/60 but I've got an auto...

I have never spun off the line with them but I only have 7 passes on the combo but my best 60ft is 1.48(9.5 psi air) from what people tell me I should be able to get low 1.4 60`s with 15 or so psi. From what people have told me I was twisting the hell out of them with so little psi in them.

You like the M/T tires because you have not tried M&H Racemasters I cut 1.42 60 foots on the M&H 26x11.5x15 @ 16psi hot.(a 26'' tire 1.42's) I could not get M/T tires to hook on my car for sh*t. The M&H tires hooked so good I started to break parts. I am also going with the M&H 27'' this year,I need just a bit more topend. www.intercotire.com I was also cutting 1.53 to 1.55 60's on the same tire but in a 16'' rim on some old LT1 rims..

I would consider the M&Hs, but they are not offered in a 27" for a 16" wheel. Only 15" are available.
I am currently on the 26" ET street and need more up top. I think the car is good for another 2-3 mph. Plus a taller tire will stretch out my shifts down low a little bit. Right now I make 3 shifts before the 1/8 mile. It is killing me on the front half of the track and I try to make it up on the top end.

Can you even decently fit a 28 on a back of a C5Z? I had an 02 C5Z and I think a 28 would be snug in there and I'd hate to cut the plastics on the car.
I'm going 144 with room to spare with my Formy, shifting at 7000, on 28" tall tires.

So you like the Hoosier better than the ET street? I heard the the Hoosier is harder on the drivetrain in a stick car. Any truth to that? It sounds like I can't go wrong with the 28" tire.
