Torsen Differential - Limited Slip Additive Required??
Hey guys,
At the Auto-X today, I was doing a ton of 1-leggers in the tight S-turns, which got me thinking, "did I put in too much limited slip additive?"
After a search, am I reading that I shouldn't have any of that stuff in at all? I put in 75w90 Valvoline Synthetic w/ a tube of LSD additive.

I found this in the search, but want to know if this 1-legging in the tight S-turns is a result of the fluid directly, or just something these cars will do in a tight turn... that is one-leg burnouts for like 30ft trying to maintain exit speed.

No, it's a result of a low max torque split limit on the
stock Torsen, unequal tire loads and a tire with a large
difference between stuck and sliding friction. I suspect
the bias split degrades with wear. I found a lot of
shavings in mine at, what, 20Kmiles or so?
I would change it out for straight heavy nonsynthetic
gear oil, hold the mayo.

Thanks for your response, I <3 mayo though recently switched to Miracle whip light because I love mayo-like substances so much its probably not too healthy.
..anyways, if I have 75w90, are you saying move to a 80w90, or thicker without the LSD additive?

I change the fluid in my Torsen every year when I bring the car out of winter storage. Last year when I installed my Strange 3:73 I went with dino lube based on Strange's recommendation. And for the first time for an experiment I didn't use the GM anti-slip additive.
I ended up getting the old rusty screw sound out of my Torsen. So when I got the car out this year I included the additive with the dino lube and the noise is pretty much gone.
This convinced me to keep the additive in my Torsen from now on.

Thanks for your note. I may go w/ dino gear oil and see if I get that sound. According to a couple searches that link Torsen's site, the rusty screw sound isn't harmful?
I guess if I get the sound, but one-leg less, that'll be an acceptable trade-off for me, otherwise I'll throw in some additive.

Yep, detroit tru-trac. You will have a much stronger diff and no more 1 wheel peels. It's also only $350 from a huge mail order distributor that rhymes with "love it".
