You'll need '99-'02 coil rails and valve covers. The coils can be use on the newer rails.

you need 99+ heads. 98 heads are perimeter bolt and 99+ are center bolt. one wont work with the other.

Perimeter v/s Center Bolt refers only to the method of how the valvecovers are secured to the heads, correct? '98 style heads still bolt to the block in the same locations as the '99+ I do believe.

The PCV setup would need to be modified, wouldn't be very difficult though.

Actual head (bolts) to the block is the same, i.e. You can bolt 98 heads on a 01 motor or vice versa. You just have to use the valve covers for what ever year head your using.

I did the exact same thing when I swapped heads on my car. I had to get the valve covers from the local Chevy dealership. On mine, I just bolted the coils directly to the valve covers, there is no need for coil brackets.

Not a big deal, just try to find the VC's from somewhere that won't try to poke you in the rear. I had a contact at the chevy dealer so I got them at a fairly decent discount. Were it not for that, I would have dug around in junk yards and on the net till I found them.

Best of luck!

Yeah, what he said Since the '98's had the coil packs mounted individually to the VC's rather than on a rail, you would just need to remove the coil packs from the rail and mount directly to the VC's. You may have a problem with getting the last bolt in to place on the passenger side coil pack closest to the firewall, but it'll work.

BTW: I picked up my set of '98 style VCs from off the boards here for $35 shipped.
