Default mobil 5w40 truck and suv oil!

I have been using this oil for a year+ now and I really like it, but lately I haven`t found anything but 5w30 truck and suv oil. I have enough w40 for 2 more oil changes. Does anyone know why they changed from 5w40 to 5w30, also I noticed they still have the regular 5w30 synthetic. What if anyone knows is the difference between the 2 different 5w30`s.

wow, you are so wrong it's not even funny. mobil 1 30W's are far too thin for the LS1. this is why they consume oil and tick - oil is too thin. for all you guys out there running M1 30W, get your oil analyzed a few times. you'll stop using it on your own.

mobil 1 0W-40 will work, also. it's good oil. however, GC 0W-30 is better than all mobil 1's. the GC 30W is as thick as a mobil 1 40W, but it's a superior oil base. you can get that ONLY from autozone.

Due to a marketing change, the Truck/SUV 5w-40 has been changed to Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40. Also available is the Delvac 1 5w-40, which is essentially the same oil in a different container.

Unless you have a place where you can get these two other oils, you (and I, and many others) are screwed. I have enough for two or three more changes, but after that I'll have to find something new.

I hear the 0w-40 Mobil 1 is ok. It was even on sale at Advanced Auto for $4.77 qt last week. I haven't really checked on it yet, but I'll have to soon.

And before anyone tells us to go GC, well, don't bother. Good luck finding it unless you just happen to bump into it. Mobil 1 is fine for me, but 40w is required from that manufacturer. I want something I can get at stores I frequent, and I'm not going on a quest for the Holy Grail to get it.

i already told him to go GC

both autozones in my area have it. it's easy to find (granted they're 25 miles away ). they have plenty of it usually. as long as you have an autozone locally, you'll probably be able to find it easily - or you can order it online, free shipping and no tax. if you have no autozone and don't wanna order online, go M1 0W-40.

The 5W40 is hard to find here too. I haven't been able to find in in the new Diesel packaging yet, and I'm about due for an oil change.

uh no I can tell you your wrong I have worked in the oil industry for about 5 years and I can tell you there is differences in waits and viscosities obviously but dont waist money on synthitics please, just change your oil every couple thousand miles with the cheap stuff 10w-30 is not too thin at all for ls1's just right. They call for 5w-30 anyways.

wow. just wow. first off, a mobil 1 30W is a borderline 20W. i take it you don't know that every time you put 5W-30 in your LS1, you're putting in more like a 0W-20. this is responsible for much of the LS1's ticking and oil consumption. this is why GC 0W-30 takes care of it. GC 0W-30 is a borderline 40W oil. GC 0W-30 is almost identical to mobil 1 0W-40 in thickness. the difference is, GC 0W-30 has a much more exotic oil base than any mobil 1. all oil is NOT the same and mobil 1 5W-30 IS too thin for the LS1. find all the guys on here that have to add a quart every 1,000 miles. i GUARANTEE you most of them run mobil 1 30W oil.

i don't "waist" my money on "synthitics". synthetic oil can be run longer, keep your engine cleaner and provide better protection, all while providing better fuel economy. in the long run, synthetics are actually cheaper. seems like someone that works for the oil industry would know that.

for all you guys running mobil 1 30W oil, please do 2 or 3 oil analyses on your oil. chances are, you'll stop using mobil 1 30W's all together once you see them.

i wouldn't run mobil 1 30W's if it was free. the only mobil 1's i'd ever run is 0W-40 or 5W-40.

I've done around 8 used oil analysis tests on my LS1. Half w 10W30 and the rest on 15W-40. The thicker oil lowered iron and lead numbers by close to half with the same usage and service interval. Go from a $20 UOA and see what works for your car. My H/C might like a thicker oil than someone's stock LS1. Oils used were Schaeffer PAO Blends.

What about penzoil platinum (full synthetic) 5W-40 european blend, how does this compare to mobil 5W-40 and GC 0W-30. I am curious because they stock it where I work (and I can... ya know have one accidentally fall into my car )

i'd stay away from ALL "made in the USA" castrol syntec. their conventional oil castrol GTX is some of the best conventional oil out there, but their castrol syntec USA-made variety isn't fully synthetic. laws in the USA allow oil companies to super-refine their oil and market it as a full synthetic when it really is not. in germany, this practice is illegal. i'd strongly recommend mobil 1 0W-40 over castrol "made in the USA" as mobil 1 is fully synthetic.

the "made in germany" castrol syntec 0W-30 is a special breed. it's extremely exotic - some of the most exotic oil ever tested. its properties are borderline amazing. it's fully synthetic from the base up. like it was mentioned above, it's only found at autozones, but there is a single online site that sells it for $8/quart. yes, it's pricey, but when you factor in free shipping, no tax and you won't have to burn gas driving to get to autozone, the price isn't too much of a difference.

honestly i don't know. i'd be willing to bet that GC 0W-30 outperforms. no oil i've seen tested seems to perform better in the LS1. i doubt pennzoil is an exception. i'm not trying to knock pennzoil, they're a good name, but when you go against the top dog, things don't usually come out well.
