mobil 5w40 truck and suv oil!
I have been using this oil for a year+ now and I really like it, but lately I haven`t found anything but 5w30 truck and suv oil. I have enough w40 for 2 more oil changes. Does anyone know why they changed from 5w40 to 5w30, also I noticed they still have the regular 5w30 synthetic. What if anyone knows is the difference between the 2 different 5w30`s.

mobil 1 0W-40 will work, also. it's good oil. however, GC 0W-30 is better than all mobil 1's. the GC 30W is as thick as a mobil 1 40W, but it's a superior oil base. you can get that ONLY from autozone.

Due to a marketing change, the Truck/SUV 5w-40 has been changed to Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40. Also available is the Delvac 1 5w-40, which is essentially the same oil in a different container.
Unless you have a place where you can get these two other oils, you (and I, and many others) are screwed. I have enough for two or three more changes, but after that I'll have to find something new.
I hear the 0w-40 Mobil 1 is ok. It was even on sale at Advanced Auto for $4.77 qt last week. I haven't really checked on it yet, but I'll have to soon.
And before anyone tells us to go GC, well, don't bother. Good luck finding it unless you just happen to bump into it. Mobil 1 is fine for me, but 40w is required from that manufacturer. I want something I can get at stores I frequent, and I'm not going on a quest for the Holy Grail to get it.

both autozones in my area have it. it's easy to find (granted they're 25 miles away ). they have plenty of it usually. as long as you have an autozone locally, you'll probably be able to find it easily - or you can order it online, free shipping and no tax. if you have no autozone and don't wanna order online, go M1 0W-40.

i don't "waist" my money on "synthitics". synthetic oil can be run longer, keep your engine cleaner and provide better protection, all while providing better fuel economy. in the long run, synthetics are actually cheaper. seems like someone that works for the oil industry would know that.
for all you guys running mobil 1 30W oil, please do 2 or 3 oil analyses on your oil. chances are, you'll stop using mobil 1 30W's all together once you see them.
i wouldn't run mobil 1 30W's if it was free. the only mobil 1's i'd ever run is 0W-40 or 5W-40.

I've done around 8 used oil analysis tests on my LS1. Half w 10W30 and the rest on 15W-40. The thicker oil lowered iron and lead numbers by close to half with the same usage and service interval. Go from a $20 UOA and see what works for your car. My H/C might like a thicker oil than someone's stock LS1. Oils used were Schaeffer PAO Blends.

What about penzoil platinum (full synthetic) 5W-40 european blend, how does this compare to mobil 5W-40 and GC 0W-30. I am curious because they stock it where I work (and I can... ya know have one accidentally fall into my car )

the "made in germany" castrol syntec 0W-30 is a special breed. it's extremely exotic - some of the most exotic oil ever tested. its properties are borderline amazing. it's fully synthetic from the base up. like it was mentioned above, it's only found at autozones, but there is a single online site that sells it for $8/quart. yes, it's pricey, but when you factor in free shipping, no tax and you won't have to burn gas driving to get to autozone, the price isn't too much of a difference.
