Are Ram-Air Systems Worth the $$$?
I'm considering purchasing a ram air system for my car, most likely the SSRA, but I've read that these kind of systems don't make a lot of improvement. Is this true? Do any of you have any before and after dynos?
Thanks,
Josh

The improvements show when the car is moving at least 30-40mph. It really won't show on the dyno if thats what you are asking.
I would rather get the FTRA myself.

I disagree with ram air kits not showing up on a dyno. Stock my car made 299.9rwhp. I then put on the Super Sucker Ram Air. I put a construction fan/blower right in front of the scoop. We did this numerous times. The best increase was 13rwhp, with the average 12rwhp.

You guys need to stop racing dyno's and take it to the track. FTRA, SSRA, and FRA are proven mods. They will reduce ET. Who cares what a dyno says.

Big difference from lowering IAT on these cars,
both from the cooler air itself and the PCM's
response to it. There may be minor pressurization
effects but these have never been quantified to my
knowledge (ETs maybe but no direct before-throttle
PSI numbers).
Various ram air mods have different effects on
IAT; I notice that a FRA-like setup (I hacked up
an SLP CAI piece to draw from the nose area) has
a higher IAT than my SS hood alone, under low
speed conditions. Under-car air is pavement temp
at worst, and Florida pavement is slightly warm.

Is there any problems with having water getting in it when it rains out. Does it get inside and everything else. I know the mustang ram air would suck water in on the fox bodies. Wasn't sure about this one.

Re: Are Ram-Air Systems Worth the $$$?
Ive been thinking about the supersucker ram air too, but the water suckin is what im kinda worried about. I think ill do it and put in a blocker of some sort to keep the water out in the rain. Harwood makes all those scoop plugs, they cant be too hard to make. a lil fiberglass in the house : ) Ive read 15 rwhp at 60 mph. This was done on the dyno with a huge fan in front and something measuring wind speed at 60 mph, and a 15rwhp gain. not too bad for 200 bucks...cheers to the ls1!

The FTRA comes with a block off plate that takes about a minute to install. I carry mine with me just in case. And I noticed a big difference with my FTRA.
