Default Trex Cam question

I am looking into buying a trex cam. and everyone says they have valve clearance issues, afte taking the heads off my buddies car we found his valves were kissing the pistons a lil. he has the basic trex with 110lsa..

My question is, if you had a custom grind trex with 111lsa or 112 would that help with valve clearance??

i dont believe the LSA would make a difference its more the Duration/Lift setup on that cam, which is through the room as far as duration for a 346. That cam puts down some serious times/numbers though. Looking back on it i should have gone TREX v.3 not my MS4

Don't get me wrong, baby and mid sized cams get the job done well
But from the moment I heard a Trex car and saw what kind of power they were making I knew I had to have this cam.

As for the heads, I believe they are 68cc, they are not milled and I did not flycut the pistons

I don't drive it daily, if your wanting a cam for a daily driver, this is prob not the type of cam your looking for, any big cam can be tuned to drive excellent though. I would suggest something in the 228-230's range for a daily.

I completely disagree with this statement. I have dyno tested these two camshafts side by side on the engine dyno. If you'd like your welcome to come down & compare the two side by side on my engine dyno.

not to thread hijack.... but will my -4cc valve reliefs be enough for a milled 36 thousandths 243 head and a .040 head gasket with my MS4 cam? obviously ill be doing a clearance check when i assemble. But im bring my heads to the machine shop tonight and wondering if i can go that low. thanks

With my stock 243 heads, my 242/248 (cam is same duration as the Trex with more lift) 111 lsa doesn't have issues. Just my quick .02.

LSA DOES reflect PtV clearance as its a relation of valve overlap.

Without any proof to back up my claim, I would say it would help.

How much it will help I have no idea.

Do they make that cam on a 112, or is it a special order type of deal.

Reason I ask is if they engineered that monster on a 110, and you change it to a 112 that throws the whole powerband off.

If it was me man, I would flycut the pistons and do it right. Someone makes a tool to cut the pistons in the motor using the valve guide. I just saw some pics last week I think of someone using it in a vette I think.

Good luck with whatever you do.
