Default Decking a block

How much can you safely take off a stock LS1 aluminum block deck?

Well, that doesn't give me the specs I was looking for. Thanks though.

I've taken as much as .018 off the deck of an 1168 LS6 block. The decks are surprisingly level, front to back and side to side. I am building a '383' for my vette and I took .013 off the driver's side bank and .014 off passenger side to get pistons .006 out of the hole.

9.224 finished deck. Rods are 6.125 plus 1/2 stroke plus compression height should be 9.23 assembled rod length.

Gotcha. So your motor was about 9.24" from the start "roughly" Thank you. Here's what I am doing. I'm trying to refresh a motor using mostly stock components. Deck is alittle rough gonna need about .005 removed to clean it up. After doing about 4 hours of looking I ran across this. http://www.ls1engine.com/tech/ls1-en...arances-specs/ So I'm hoping this block is on the + side (especially on the damaged side) the block is + some material.

If you are trying to fix with stock parts, remember that the stock piston can be proud of the bore by .010-.012 @TDC. Just make sure you make corresponding changes to quench. Tighter quench reduces possibility of detonation. If you end up .010 proud on pistons, I'd use a .045 Cometic MLS gasket.
