Default PTV clearance to tight??

I am doing a heads/cam build for a buddy of mine on his 02 SS.We are doing prc 215's 62cc chambers with .040 cometics and the street sweeper ht cam
228/232 .612 .600 111.

I Timed the cam and it was good at 108 icl.then i checked my ptv clearance and have .060 on the intake and .100 exhaust.
I used the dial indicator method with adjustable pushrod and modified stock lifter to be solid. Now Tony Mamo stated that when using the dial indicator method you can add .015 to .020 to the measurments because the real valve springs will cause pushrod, cam and rocker deflection.

I can use a normal gm head gasket to get and extra .010 but i want that tight quench that the cometic .040 offers.

What would you do??I dont want to flycut

.060" is about the least amount of clearance we would ever want to see. If you are trying to push the envelope it will clear, but I would just try to stay aware as to how close it is.

okay,i think im going to set his rev limiter to 6,600,so as long as he doesnt miss too many shifts he should be fine.

Retard the cam 2* to 110 ICL, that should give you some more margin on intake.

run it! Ive got half that much on both sides with no problems. An intake valve chasing a piston will never hit, check and 8*BTDC and 8*ATDC thats the only 2 places you have to worry about. Also check with the solid lifter and the real springs with clay will be the most accurate

How is this done?? Is there a different cam gear that i need?i will do a search.I was thinking about retarding the cam,but was not sure how effective it would be or costly it would be

I'd use the thicker gasket to gain the clearance.

well i picked up some modeling clay and after the 3rd try i finally got a real good reading using the clay, and it was only .070.So i picked up .010 just from using the stiffer spring. Its not the .015 to .020 i was hoping to pickup,so we are going to run the stock gm head gaskets to get up to .080.Sucks we cant use the .040 cometic but its not my car or my money,so im not chancing it.

I wouldnt be all that concerned with .070, I run .35 I and .45 E on mine up to 7k+ with no issues, just make sure it has decent springs and keep it off the limiter

have you puled the heads to see if there are marks on your pistons?.035 is crazzy tight for a hydraulic roller setup imo.Its a 6 speed car and im not the one driving it,so if he missed a shift he would have some extra room just in case.
