Talking The Disassembly [SiXXX]

I am going to share with you all the disassembly of my ws6 as it goes. There will be lots of pictures coming so enjoy

Engine is being torn down to find the cause of the tapping/light knocking sound.

Here are some pictures of SiXXX before the tear down:

Going to be dropping the engine out of the bottom so work begins...

The "quick" disconnect fuel line took me about 3 hours and a lot of cursing out the makers of 2 different tools.

I removed the fuel rail from the intake so I could get a better idea of what was going on.
BOTH 3/8" tools were not built to the correct outer diameter -____-.
Made a tool and got the line free of the fuel rail at last!.

Here is the stopping point of day 1:

Didn't have much time to work on it day 2 but still some progress:

Here is where i'm working LOVE the size of this garage!

End of day 3, engine is totally free of the chassis and resting on dollies:

Currently waiting on some more parts and my engine stand to arrive then I will lift the body off.

A/C, Heater, ABS, Cruise, Traction Control are all pulling a Houdini act. POOF they're gone!

I am going to be pulling the PCM inside and relocating the fusebox in the cabin as well. Does anyone have any pictures or anything of how all the harnesses are laid out? Going to thin out the harness of things I don't need anymore. Air/EGR/ABS/AC/ etc.

I'd love to have that much space in my garage. Gotta make due with what we have I suppose. Are you going to be doing a stock rebuild once the cause of your noise is located, or should we expect something more?

Definitely not going the stock route. Depending on the severity of the damage will decide how far aftermarket I go.

Engine stand arrived today and got it assembled.

A little under 118k miles. Heads and cam and lifters are all coming out for inspection.

My 2007 LM7 had a couple chewed up lifters and destroyed the cam. Damn FRAM filters. Lol

Got a little bit more done yesterday.

My A/C Delete Panel came in as well. Found one on eBay. Looks laser cut, pretty high quality. Price is right too.

Heading back out to the garage shortly.

Lifter was grinding against the cam. My pulley puller will arrive tomorrow so i'll be able to pull the front cover off and yank the cam.

All the lobes look good from what I can see through the lifter holes minus the one. Will post some pics shortly Flickr is down for maintenance

Removing the rockers on the passenger side head. This is the side with the problem.

Got the head popped off so far so good.

Lifters coming out smoothly. I left the one I thought was F'd for last... it was.

#8 intake lifter won't come out of its bore from the top. Will have to drop out the bottom after cam comes out. Time to flip it over and remove the pan.

F'ing mess everywhere

Inspecting the lower end I find a wonderful gift from the lifter that flatspotted!

Needle bearings and chunks of the lifter housing. mmmmm delicious

Awaiting my pulley puller, will be arriving to day. Then out comes the cam and hopefully the damaged lifter.

Then on to disassembling the rest of the shortblock for inspection and then it will be sent off
to a local machine shop well versed in GM LS motors for a bearing/ring job along with a good cleaning.

Yikes man good luck with the rebuild. I'm glad my lifters didn't break apart like that or else the damage would have been worse than what it was.

Change to the LS6 PCV style since you have the valley cover off.

Followed this general writeup. A couple things went differently on my vehicle because I removed more, had other things aftermarket, etc.
