Default Cam Swap hell...

So just before we get the cam out, we go to slide the lifter tools in. passenger goes in fine, driver side goes 30% in and STOPS. What in the hell could have caused this? has anybody ever heard of this problem?

Also, just spin the cam around while you're sliding in the tool. A lot of times the worn out lifter trays can't hold the lifters up.

Did the spinning trick, along with plenty of sanding on the edge of the tool and the little bastard still wouldn't slide in.

On a side note, we DID manage to get the old cam out and the new one in using the Russian Roulette method . I'm still curious as to why that one lifter just didn't want to co-operate.

Couple hours away from first fire, pray there is nothing wrong with any valvetrain components.

Man you are lucky if you used the pull, poke, and pray method. I had a buddy do that and dropped a couple of lifters as soon as the old cam came out. Good luck let us know how it went.

Take out the pushrods and crank the engine over for a few seconds. Those babys stick nice and solid in the lifter tray when you do this. I also have a magnetic bar i made up to that works pretty good its just a pita with the Fcars to use. Either way the lifter holder tool I have works on some blocks and yet not on others.

The left side clearance is much tighter, gring/file the tool until it just slides in. BTW I made my own from aluminum rod stock - a few bucks at home depot and about 30 minutes work with a grinder and flat file.
