coverter lockup at WOT
**converter lockup at WOT**
How many people have tuned there ecm to not lock the converter at WOT. how much et or pwer did that cost? im just curious becasue i have my vig3200 converter set not to lock at WOT. from the factory the car is set to lock at WOT @ 95mph i believe(LT1).

I did not have my converter locking when it was stock, or when I was running a TCI.
Now that I have a Circle D, I plan to lock it around 120mph in 3rd, to avoid hitting the rev limiter at the end of the 1/4 or having to shift to 4th.
I tried measuring the hp difference this past Saturday on a dyno, locking it at the start of the pull, but it still dropped out of lockup when I went wot, so I need to figure that out, before I can get a hp number for the difference.

whenever i'm on the dyno it feels like the car shifts but my datalogger shows its in third. it looks a little like a shift on they dyno too. is that my converter locking or unlcoking or is it some slippage?

Circle D claims their multi-disc will hold 700-800 hp in a 3300 lb car.

About halfway down the first page.
I was making 543 hp.
Their clutch surface area is supposed to be comparable to a manual trans clutch surface area.
I need to recheck my tune for any other settings/tables that would release the tcc clutch, just to make sure that's not a factor. Pretty sure I hit all 4 tables (normal, cruise, hot, performance). Seems like there's another setting that hides out somewhere, I just don't remember off the top of my head.

I would make sure it still unlocks during the shifts. (this is geared towards anybody running a manual switch or thinking of running one)
That way the converter internals can buffer the rpm change, instead of the trans trying to instantly drop the engine/converter housing rpms on the shift.

All F body LT1 cars lock the TC at WOT from the factory. The 3.23 geared '94thru '97 locks at 95 MPH in 3rd and 4th. The '93s lock as low as 75 MPH from the factory, depending on which calibration it is running. Most 2.73 geared '94/'97 F body cals lock at 100 MPH. TBI & Vortec trucks normally lock WOT at 75 MPH. 4L80E trucks lock when WOT even lower than that.
When I was still driving mine on the steet I played with that at the track, made no difference in ET or MPH. Some cars do pick up at the track, depends on power level and car weight. Usually just a little MPH. Mine just sounded like another gear change with a 3600 converter. Turbo cars often love it, but it takes a converter built for it.

when on the dyno and your car has a stall is anything done differently in how it is gone into full throttle? also how many rpms under WOT should you go through to get a good reading?
