Shaving Stock LS6 Heads -Power Gain?
I'm about to pull the engine apart in my '01 Zo6 to polish every nut and bolt identical to the engine in my sig.
Since I'm a new father as of this weekend, the budget to buy ported heads isn't in the cards, however I'm adding a medium cam, polished stainless headers, and a polished/clearcoated powerbond pulley. I'm putting another polished Lingenfelter intake on to help make everything look like a chrome overload.
I was thinking about having the heads shaved maybe 20 thousands and having a valve job done.... since the heads would be off anyway. I know I'll need shorter pushrods.
Does anyone have advice on how much to mill, etc?
Thanks

Always when you cut your heads you will pick up compression and therefore you will pickup hp's. Depending on your supporting mods you have will determine how much. Normally I have seen on a ls1-ls6 base platform with full bolt on's around 15-18 rwhp.
You should be fine with .020 but you will need to measure pushrod length and check the geometry of your valvetrain..

Here's the plan:
Send my stock 243 castings to TSP and they will cnc port and shave 20 thousands for only $600...
Buy a cam with a 228/231 .590 lift on a 113+4 LSA
Stock GM head gaskets.
With stainless headers (polished of course) chrome elec water pump, and a pulley, I'm thinking a safe 420+ rwhp is what I can expect.
With looks to win a trophy or two.

For the old pictures.... I knew I was going twin turbo, so these shots still have the painted headers.
One of the sig pictures blown up, this is the night I was putting it back together.

Sneak Peek
So far I've got one valve cover, coolant cross over, fuel rail like chrome...
The heads are about to come off, along with the valley cover, timing cover, alt bracket, water pump, ... and pretty much everything else.
The Lingenfelter intake (from my old Firehawk) should arrive at the end of this month.
Should have it back together in 2-3 months.
