Default forged piston broke... what happened

heres a couple pics... it was blowing smoke and started stumbling at idle... felt a little down on power and had only 40 psi of compression so i decided to pull the motor and this is what i found

stock rods are fine, only running 10 psi and made about 600hp/tq

Wasn't enough ring gap. Ends butted together and broke the ring land.

I can't see the pictures b/c I'm at work....but reading what is said I'd guess either you ran that particular cylinder rich and some fuel got under the rings, or the rings were gapped too tight.

What year did Kurt have those updated?

were they breaking because of too little ring gap like someone else said or is it just those pistons, or a tune... btw why have all that custom work done instead of just going with a different piston alltogether.

i doubt w2w was setting the ring gap up wrong on mine.

fair to say, thought that i can put a hurting on a set of pistons

u'd have to ask kurt why he chooses mahle.

The custom pistons W2W was using were generally 2618 material not the 4032 powerpak pistons.
