408 isn't usually made from an ls1. So, 408, that's going to be tough to judge without knowing what heads and cam. A good round about number would be 500whp.

Your number can be done with a 346 if you want to go that route. http://guerragroup.com/2000TA.htm . You can talk to the vendors for some good short block deals if your interested in going that route as well. Preferably find someone in your area.

Fully built? You can push 700 on the block with a 383 stroker. Guy in the area is going 800 on the spray. 600 NA with a 383 LT1. Now if you re sleeve the block your goals will go as far as the block will hold. Be ready to shell the cash for the job but anything is possible. You can get big block cubes from you small block LS1

a LS1 block will need resleeving. You can do a 402 on a LS2 block w/o doing that. You can pretty much go max 383 on a LS1 w/o doing any sleeve work.

As for HP, it all depends on how radical you go on the cam and how much compression you run.

plenty of guys are running 402/408 sized motors with decent cams and even budget heads and making 500-520rwhp

more can be made with better heads

even using your current block and going with a 383...you'd be able to make 500rwhp without much trouble.

Agreed. We had a kid local buy a built 98 T/A that had a Rapid Motorsports 383 which made 550 RWHP through a 12 bolt and m6. When a Th400 went into it, it drop by 75 hp but went faster at the track.

A Very remarkable motor.
