Default Final stage of my stock internal M6 build

I've never really posted any build or progress threads, so I figured I'd make one on the last few things I'll be doing to the car while it's still SI. For over 6 months now it has had a bad fuel pressure drop at wot and I haven't made one clean pass since the 11.5 I did last year, it's REALLY been pissing me off

So I've decided to redo the whole fuel system and switch over to a front mount reg and a return system... after I've replaced almost all the stock crap I'm also putting in some parts I've had sitting in my garage for the past 6 months. Considering the amount of **** I'm changing I figured I might as well drop the engine and trans to do some cleaning, tucking, and cutting while I'm at it. I'm gonna try to take some pics of all the stuff as it goes in and I'll update as I go. Heres where I'm at now and some of the stuff thats going in.

Racecraft chromolly K-member and control arms
Spohn solid motor mounts
Strange brakes front and rear
Chromemoly 6pt. roll bar
Kirkey seat
mini batt.
Switching over to 28/10.5 slicks
Switching to an aluminum DS
Lingenfelter 2-step
New clutch - Monster level 3 w/chromemoly FW
Complete fuel system - rails, lines, reg, etc.
Porting and painting the intake (90/90)
Switching to a custom 4" cold air/ram air
...and a few more things I cant remember right now

I'd have left the motor in the car.. you can get a piece of 2x2 square tubing, rest it across the shock towers and put a strap under the motor, then drop the k member.
Looks good though, car's nice and clean, and if you went 11.5 before, you're gonna pick up a good bit once it's done I think.

Thanks, that's my goal I've been chasing down your time for a while now lol. If you don't mind me asking, what size tires were you running with the 4.56's?

I'm going to paint the engine bay and was planning on removing the heater core. That plus the clutch swap, k-member, and cleaning up the motor and engine bay, I figured I might as well pull it out. And really all I had to do was pull a few more sensors and bolts so it wasn't too bad

Thanks. I think the ds will be ok, I'm not making that much power and I think the shaft is rated to 1000hp. We'll find out soon enough

Yeah, you're right. Plus you'll have to align it anyway once you put teh k member in, so at that point I guess it's not a huge deal.

This would be a good time to paint the engine bay, go thru the harness and pull out all the uneeded stuff, like the back o2 wires, hell the front O2 wires too while you're at it, etc. It will be easier with the motor out to ditch the hvac too, be a good time to relocate the pcm under the dash too, so the engine bay's cleaned up a bunch.

Yeah that's a good idea with the unneeded wires/harness. I decided not to pull the HVAC cause I'm still going to drive it on the street and I don't want to worry about the windshield fogging up. Thought about the PCM relo. but I think that's more work than I want to get into right now, I want to get this thing on the road asap before 90 degrees becomes the low around here

You could look into the mojave heater, you can mount it so it will blow thru the upper dash pad, and that heater opens up all the area under the dash. They're light too, about 8 lbs compared to 20+ for all the stock stuff.

It's worth it for the space though... I'd do it now. Just have to run the hoses back to the hvac delete plate, and the pcm relocation, easy, just cut a hole in the corner of the hvac delete and run the pcm wires thru there, to the pcm, mount the pcm holder inside, and you're done.

I just like to do as much as I can while it's apart the first time, saves time in the long run.

I'll look into that heater, thanks

I'm still debating whether or not to delete the hvac but if I do I will certainly move the PCM. I'm pretty sure I'll want to put the AC back in after I meet my goal and I don't want to have to mess with the hvac once the motor's back in.

Got the motor cleaned up a little, mounts and k-member on, and painted the valve covers, thermo, and tensioner bracket. I'm working on porting and painting the intake now.

I was running 28 x 10.5 x 15 with the 4.56's Im sure I was pushing valve float and I could feel a drop off of power the last 60-100' but they helped the 60' considerably.

Wow that's some serious rpm. Do you know what you crossed the traps at? With 4.11's and 28's I cross at about 6200, I don't think my tired old motor would hang too long if I went with 4.56's. I bet the launch would be crazy though. I saw a pic a while back of your car pulling the wheels a good bit, almost switched over right then

Have no idea what the RPM was through the traps - stock tach is not your friend at those RPM's. If I was to do it again, Id look into 29 or 29.5" tires. The 4.56 solve the bogging issues I had with 4.10's but I knew it was on the edge of running out.

with the 4.56 gearing and being Si you should be close to 6500 to 6600 with a 28 tire. M6 and 4.56 N/A is the only way to go. No bog at all. will a 4.10 or 4.11 will work but you will be revving the **** out of the motor off the line to loss the bog. So anyway you look at it your going to be turning the motor hard. If it was me I would find some cheap LS6 or a new set of stock springs that are fresh and strong springs put them in and do a 4.56 gear..

Exactly - When I was running 4.10's and 26" and 28" tall tires, I had to launch at a higher RPM, it would shock the tires and wear out the sidewalls pretty fast. Before you know it youre fighting spin or bog. The 4.56's solve that.

GTO tranny solves that problem too. First is 2.9x instead of 2.6x

Yeah I know what you mean. I've been launching right around 6k and I still have to feather it out pretty good. I'm going to keep the springs stock for now, I want to keep it in the SI "guidelines" to see what I can get out of it. When I've tapped all I can out of the stock longblock I'm going to throw in a big cam I had Pat G spec for me a while back and see what it'll do cam only.

I'd love to switch over to 4.56's and run a 29/29.5 tire but sadly it's not in the budget right now
