Default Where is my oil going?

Of course I got my cam in my car, now a quart of oil is missing every 1000 miles. Any ideas where it is going. I have a rev extreme catch can installed per there instructions ( see attached)

There is smoke coming out under hard acceleration, looks black but not sure. It doesnt smoke at idle or smell like oil. I have check a couple plugs, number 1 and number 7, look brown like normal, no oil.

I was thinking valve seals. Let me know

I am going to check my catch can and lines to see what is in them when I get home tonight.

Ddi you have the car tuned? There shouldn't be balck smoke.

Pull the throttle body and check for oil in the intake.

x2 on the intake, make sure you are not sucking up oil with your PCV system and just burning it through the intake. common problem with LS1 based motors.

I have a catch can and I just took off the TB, clean as a wistle in there. Must be doing a good job.

I took off my catch can, nothing in it.

I have the same problem going on.

I have dual Saikou Michi catch cans setup on there, intake/TB is bone dry, but I'm missing a quart every 1000 as well...not smoking on idle or normal driving, only at WOT, but its not blueish like oil....so, I picked up some valve seals to install and see if that fixes it as well as going to put some more thread sealer on my rocker bolts. I'll try and get to them this weekend and get back with you.

Thanks,

Cody B.

Search "Ls6 valley pan mod". It seems to be common to a lot of Ls1 engines.I think one of the sponsors sell a kit to stop the oil consumption issue. Not trying to be a know it all, just tryin' to help.

That Rev Extreme can does not work that well as the oil can get sucked back up right on the other side of the baffle. I had one on my rides and took it off. I fabbed up an A/C accumulator and stuffed it under the bumper.

The Saikou Michi has the best design like an A/C accumulator. Where the inlet port goes almost all the way to the bottom, and the outlet ( to the PCV ) is at the top. Therfore Oil won't get sucked back in.

BTW, i did the LS6 valley cover swap on my LS1...I went with the one from the 04' that has a fixed orifice...didn't help anything on my oil consumption issue.

Just an FYI...

Are you talking about on the piston?

Fyi, my buddies followed me to the track and it only blew black smoke out just before shifting which I believe is normal. It does not blow any blue smoke at any time.

Cats are gonna burn the oil off so you're not gonna see it unless its a huge amount of oil burning. I've heard of this issue so mant times after guy change cams. Do a leak down test and maybe that will show something. Odd but thing but it happens alot. Mine did the same.

I will try a leak down. Im not too worried, I bet if I stay out of the throttle, it wont burn that much. I have to keep filling it. probably a quart every thousand. I really hammer it, I dont drive it much, but when I do, I get on it quite a bit. I love the power, plus it goes away for the winter so I have to enjoy it while its out.
