Default 2002 Camaro 35th Anniv. SLP SS Exhaust

Hey guys! I just sold my 1969 Camaro SS. It had a ZZ4 in it with a cam and a dual flowmaster exhaust with Super 44 mufflers. It sounded amazing going down the road and sitting at idle.

I now own a 2002 35th Anniversary car. LS-1, SLP exhaust, and it just doesn't sound like I want it to. I really like the "deep smooth bass rumble" that Super 44's gave me, and even though Borla builds one hell of an exhaust, the "raspy" note kinda bugs me. I want the sweet class American Muscle rumble, without the raspy. I am open to all ideas and suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Newb question! If I do a cat delete, what about the sensors that are currently screwed into them? Also, how will it affect the car's computer? Will it start throwing codes and flashing lights if I remove the stock cats?

I know, newb question, but remember...I just sold a '69 Camaro. No cats on the muscle I'm use to working on!

the car will start throwing codes, but you can just bring it to a tune shop thats familiar with LS based cars and tell them to tune out the Cats 02 sensor

The only thing I see on their website is Cat-Back stuff anyways. Do the cats really kill the sound?

well the sound is still good with cats, but for that old muscle car sound, then you would want it without cats.
the SLP exhaust is just slightly louder then stock. So id go with Corsa, ive had there exhaust for about 4 months now and im extremely satisfied with the sound (with cats since i drive it daily) but corsa with no cats sounds to me like my fathers 69 camaro. except not as deep.

Which SLP exhaust do you have on your car?

Dual-dual? Center-mount exhaust? Stock SS exhaust?

None are going to be too-too loud, but they each have a decent tone. My car has the CME, but the muffler was swapped out for an SLP Loudmouth I resonator. It's much louder, even with the cats, and it's cheaper than getting the entire catback replaced:

And if you're really looking to dump some cash for a retro muscle-esque tone, check out the Kooks true duals:

Sweet videos. Your car sounds sweet as hell, and the Kooks are wicked too! Too bad they're almost $2,000. I've been looking into a Flowmaster Cat-Back System with an 80 series muffler. They sound good. I know they aren't stainless steel, but keep in mind that my car will never see rain, snow, salt, etc. What's funny is that in all the videos I've seen, the Flowmaster 80 series Cat-Back setup sounds alot nicer than the Corsa or Borla alternatives. Maybe I'm crazy though!

Does anyone here have Flowmaster 80 Series exhaust with stock manifolds and cats? I'm just anxious to know if it sounds good, or if it sounds like complete ****.

I've got the 35th LE and hated the stock SS exhaust (single tip, non SLP...when I say stock, I mean stock). But I didn't want to take away from the 35th LE package by adding Borla/Corsa, etc. So I bought a used dual/dual system and love it. Quite at idle, free flowing, and loud at WOT. Some say too quite, but I had Borla adj on my last LS1 and although it turns heads, I am more satisfied with my dual/dual and my 35th LE turning heads with it's stripes and machined wheels.

Hey guys! Still weighing my options for a cat-back exhaust system. Think I'm gonna pull the trigger on something this week no matter what. Has anyone here heard, owned, or installed a Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust. Magnaflow number 16846, made specifically for the 2002 SS. I'm sure somebody has here. What are your thoughts on the exhaust? Good tone? Good rumble? What about sound? Thanks!

Yeah, your crazy. Watching Clips from Phone video ?
Just kiddin' man, I respect an honest opinion. Magnaflow makes nice stuff.
Good luck with your choice and congrats on the New SS, you will love it more everyday.

I have the SLP CME and with long tubes / ORY / cam
it sounded pretty damn good. With shorties and tubes
and a SLP Y it's even louder. Maybe your problem is
upstream. You can't fix cats and a punk cam with just
a muffler, and the SLP muffler (the big stainless one
that comes with CME / DD) will let plenty of noise out
when you get on it.
