New Cam recommendations?(current cam 262/266) 434ci stroker TFS245s..
Im currently (barely) running a vengeance racing 262/266 624/624@113+3 camshaft in my daily driven 434 stroked Nissan 350z. When I spoke with them on the phone I was very specific with what I wanted and they said this would get me there. I said I daily drive my car, I can handle big cam and don't mind surge..but I wanted something that would make 550+whp without having to spin past 7k and great mid range and they told me this cam would be the cam and peak out around 6800rpms. Now for the reality... The car idles at 86-89kpa and WOT is 98kpa......and has no brakes.I can't count how many times in the past month alone that I almost put this car into someones *** end coming to a stop at a red light. Ive been killing myself looking for vacuum leaks, checking for a bad motor...something broken somewhere and have found nothing. Compression is 183-185 across the board which is low but probably because of the cam. It is fairly streetable as far as surge and light cruising but the car does NOT make power..
My younger brother has an 07 Z06 cammed with supporting mods that I tuned making 542whp and from a roll or anywhere pretty much I can't touch him...so I know this car (being lighter) is not making anywhere near the HP its supposed to. After speaking with a few reputable shops we have all come to the conclusion that this is not a street car cam. I was told by a few of them that the reason that the car is such a dog is because it shouldn't starting making power till around 6k up to arounbd 8500 and I shift at 7k. I do not want to spin the engine past 7k. two of the cams im looking at now is are the Speed inc SS3 or SSX cam. The SS3 is a 242/250 .611/.619@114 or the SSX which is a 247/251 .656/.660@111. Any suggestions will be nice. Engine specs are as follows:

I've got something right up your alley if your interested. Our cam kits are 679.99 and we use Brian Tooley Racing springs exclusively. Even though you've already got springs I'd like to see you using his if you aren't already. Just to break it down which you've already got a good handle on it knowing that the cranking compression is low for a N/A motor is that the huge intake lobe is killing cylinder pressure. Your IVC event is 61 which is insane for a stock style intake manifold and something you don't want to spin past 7k even on a 434.
Your IVC should be around 52-54 at the most and I'd like to see your DCR around 8.8:1 for optimal results.

Im sure you realize opinion on camshaft selection varies with almost EVERY person you talk to... That being said I have NO issue exchanging your camshaft for one cut to your exact specifications at no charge to you.
FWIW, please take a minute to look at the link below... The 440 LS7 being showcased uses the exact same intake duration and 4 more degrees of exhaust duration as you have in your 434.. Your camshaft has one more degree of advance, but these differences would NOT cause you to have to spin your 434 to "8500 rpm" to make power... I believe when you look at the graph in the link it will represent the exact power band you are looking for.

I think my setup would be better suited for your 247/251. Dropping 15* on both intake/exhaust should help as far as idle vacuum and around town drivability...I can't imagine losing TOO much up top power..esp since I don't spin this engine past 7 ever..Id be happy making 550whp with this cam on my setup and having usable brakes......please correct me if im wrong.

HP isnt the biggest issue. Vacuum at low RPM and idle are...and were made apparant yesterday in a panic stop that almost put me into the back of another vehicle. I usually have to give it a little gas to build vacuum as I come to a stop. Yesterday I didn't have time to do that and had to literally step on the brake hard enough to where my *** came off my seat. I have tried 3 different intakes (2 fast 102s and even a stock LS2) pressure tested, compression tested, leak down tested,ect and have found no issues...the cam is the only factor, and considering its size points to my vacuum/brake/drivabilty/possible combination issue. I want a streetable sub 7k rpm cam...If this combo has worked on other cars then the only other issue I could see as Ron mentioned on the phone is that the cam could of been cut wrong...but who knows.

Well im hoping it will carry power to 6800rpms. I don't really plan on spinning the engine past 6500 on nitrous so it might work out pretty well. I have no mid range whatsoever at the moment...hoping this smaller cam will give me that and some brakes.

As in too small? The next step up is 251/259..and at that point I don't see much reason in switching. If I make 550whp on a 247/252 and have to shift at 6500 thats fine too..it will give me really good mid range and the less rpm the longer the engine lasts.(in a sense) =)

Comparing IVC events(which determines cylinder pressure and where peak power is made in regards to rpm) a 251/259 112+4 versus your current 262/266 113+3 is a difference of nearly 8 degrees.
Overlap goes from 39 degrees to 31 degrees. That's a noticeable jump.

To throw a wild idea out there
I recently put together a new 382 with the help of AES and one of their 3.82" cranks.
225 TFS heads, LS2 block etc. This is my blown engine, but for the first few hundred miles I ran it n/a, as when the blowers hooked up that's all you can hear, so I wanted a little silence to ensure everything was working ok engine wise.
I use a Lingenfelter GT9 camshaft. A tame mild cam compared to everything in this thread
But TBH I was very impressed at how the engine performed when running n/a, and I'm around 9.0:1 CR
Idle and street manners were impeccable as would be expected from such a cam, and it is quite happy to spin to 7k n/a and with boost.
No idea how it would compare to the big cams mentioned in this thread though. Dont have any dyno numbers, as I dont have access to a dyno. Power delivery is also quite smooth and not aggressive ( well it still is with boost, but what can ya do )

And as you have difficulty reading, I clearly said it was happy to spin to 7k. That doesnt mean power peaks at 7k, or 6999rpm.
But I have taken it as far as 7300rpm which it is still quiet happy to do too.

I thought the same. And it actually peaked and fell off hard at 6100. But according to how it felt driving I thought it pulled to 7k plus and had the limiter at 7400. Like I said your clueless till you have it on a dyno

I could remove the limite and spin my **** to 10k doesn't mean it's happy. Doesn't mean it will last doesn't mean **** really especially If it's not making any More power that high
