Default 10 second combos..3500 lbs..NA

Been considering going the LS route for a bit. Most of the 10 second combos (budget type) are all in light 2800-3000 lb Fox bodys. For the money would the LY6 be the best route?

Something like this...

LY6
Vic jr
HP950
Custom Tick Perf cam
1 7/8 long tubes
3" exhaust
TH400...4000-4200 stall
3.73...26" DR's

Onl thing I don't like about that idea at that weight is the gear. 3.73 will just not get it rolling as well as 4.10 or better. Otherwise you seem on track.

Is your 3500 lbs including driver or not. That could be a "big" factor depending on the driver.

Take the easy route in your sig.

Thanks guys for the info. So more gear then huh . Makes sense for the power curve these motors seem to have. I need to see what this 69 tips the scales at soon. I figured about 3350 or so.

As far the the 240z 6.0 I ended up having to sell it to pay some stuff off. Sucks...will build another one day!

I wonder whats up with the 87olds442 car. It must be one hell of a set-up (HOOKED) and lightweight to break tens at 121 mph.

My Fairmont in sig is 3200+ with me in it. It has a 2009 stock CID LY6. It runs 10.00 @ 135 mph When the heat isn't a factor.
High tens is going to take around 500hp and a proper set-up.

low 10's requires close to 600hp to reach your goal. So you need to be aware, your going to have to spin your LY6 pretty good to get there.

I have ran 10.0 @ 132 with the stuff you listed and stock long block LY6 (with a TSP 229 Cam) in a 3400+ lb dodge Dakota (Not aerodynamic at all) but that had a 150 hp sniper kit. Most consistent set-up I have ever had and a great driver on top.

Then I went on a N/A venture.

Yep. Looks like you have nailed it. Going to run nitrous too?

I disagree. With a 26 in tall tire, he will run out of RPM in the 1/4 with a 4.10.

At 125 MPH with a 3.73 and a 26" tall tire and about 10% converter slip you will be at 6600 RPM. If he goes to a 4.10 it will put him at nearly 7300 RPM.

It just depends. Zones is right IMO N/A.

If he's going nitrous route then leave the gears alone and let the bottle build the torque. He won't need to spin it past 7000 IMO.

If he is going N/A and looking for low et numbers with only 364 CID , he has got to spin it to make the numbers. I have ran 4.30 gears with 26 inch tall slicks. The power is in the RPM's.

Thanks guys again for you opinions. For times mid to high 10's would be fine. Would like to do it on motor alone. Maybe nitrous down the road.

What is your MPH in the quarter? And what RPM are you crossing the stripe with those 4.30 gears and 26" tire? Remember Zone only runs 1/8th mile. Since the OP said he want so run "10s", I assume he intends to run the 1/4.

Gonna take a trip to the 1/4 eventually. But with that much weight, it needs all it can get to get moving, a 3.90 is the hall medium, 4.30 is too much, but 4.10 with 3500 pounds all motor should work out. But I spin 7200 rpm.

I have been 135.20 fastest before the heat hit.

I ONLY RUN 1/4 mile tracks. I'm not interested in 1/8th mile racing on tracks that could run 1/4 mile events. Our track is trying out 1/4 and 1/8 mile points events this year. I am only in the 1/4 mile points.
I shift/ shifted 7500 rpms my limiter is set at 7900 it crossed the traps excess 134+ without a hint from the limiter.

Its all about the valve train set up right and the right cam. I am perfectly happy with the combo and have excess 100 + 1/4 mile passes on it and some street miles.

Hey Speedtigger,

I compiled the data on the list myself and need to update it, as there are some new cars/times to add to the list.

I keep notes on working combinations to look at trends and to figure out what is working well and what isn't.

It's interesting, informative and fun to look at the data.

Here is the link to the thread where I originally posted the list. . . . https://ls1tech.com/forums/carburete...ide-cam-2.html . . . .

I think the OP has a junkyard shortblock. I am thinking he is not going to want to see 7900 RPM. LOL
