Default squirter size

i'm trying to learn this carb lingo and setup. i was experiencing a hard stumble on tip in. i watched this video which helped a noob out a lot.

http://v8tvshow.com/content/view/110/28/

last night i got out and adjusted the pump arms and then tried to set the float level...i tore the gasket on the nut and it just started puring fuel out of the top of the bowl hopefully i can find the gasket at o-reily???

anyways. the pump arms werent off from what i could tell, so i figure i need larger squirters. it has 31 front and rear on a holley 750DP. i found a thread and noticed that squirter sizes ranged from 31 to 40 on damn near the same engine combos....this makes it hard for a noob like me

another thing to consider, i dont even know what my idle timing is. can that affect my idle tip in. i can't believe MSD sends their box without a USB cord

Timing can at least help it. But depending on your combo, i guess there are different ways to fix it. I went to 40 squirters and still had a stumble. I went to 45s, and its gone. I have a buddy from here thats pretty far up on the fastest list and he told me keep going up. He had 60s in his. He told me every time he increased, the car picked up. I ran out of time, so i have never experimented any bigger yet to see if it will help mine.

For the gasket I went to the local macs hardware store and got plastic washers that were almost the perfect size... havent had a leak yet and they're cheaper than the paper ones and never tear.

Im runnin 31's on my carb but different engines run different setups.

TFS 225
236/242 110+4
1 7/8 headers

these damn squirters are expensive. i dont want to spend 125 for a kit that has all of them lol. do i just need to bite the bullet and spend the money?

They sell them as sets and what not. Your squirters will be fine with a 50cc accelerator pump.

I bought a pen drill and just drilled them out till I got what I wanted. Then I mic'd the bit to see where I was. I didnt have a 50cc pump on mine, but when I put the 50cc pump on after the squirter change, it didnt sound different, but it still went faster. Once you get so big on squirters, its a good idea to go to hollow screws too, my carb came with them.

I havent tested it, but i would say if I went back down in squirter size with the 50 cc pump, mine would slow down. maybe not. Might be worth a shot to check it out.

if you go up more than 40's u need the hollow screws,, also like fast mustang said,, buy u a number drill set on (u can alsway use one)ebay, and find you some old 25's and 28 sqirters and drill them out, till it fixed it,,, buy some junk 600 holleys for like 10 bucks or so,, and keep the ole parts around never know when someone will need something off them and get ur money back..

zane, is there anywhare local that i can find the 50cc pump kit with the matching cam? there is no point for you to come over and jack with my carb if i dont have the right parts on hand. sounds like i need to upgrade to the 50cc pump then go up in squirters if i see a need to.

why do these carbs come with 30cc pumps. it seems like a lot of you guys end up switching to 50.

The LS is very demanding with its port velocity. Unlike the old sbc.

I order my 50cc kits off eBay.

I bet smileys has them in the woodlands.

I got my pumps on eBay for 26 bucks. It was like 32 total. These ls motors are definitely different.

My ultra 950hp came with jet ext, but power valves in both ends and 30cc pumps. Why have a race carb with that stuff on there? Hell give me the good stuff.

Well, cannot please everyone. If they had 50cc pumps and no secondary PV, you would have folks asking why they have that stuff instead of a secondary PV and 30cc acc pump.

I wanted to note the the 50CC pump does not have the same effect as increasing the discharge nozzle size. It will increase the pressure of the shot slightly and it makes the pump shot duration last longer.

My jets are actually 98 square, no power valve front or rear, squirters are 45, with a 50cc on the frt. I wonder if there is benefit of going with a 50 on the rear? I dont know if it is or not. I stopped at 98 jets cause thats all I had, but mph picked up around 1 mph over the 95s

Secondaries should be too much with 50 cc in the rear, but no combo is the same.
