I've heard that Motive is the way to go but I don't have experience with aftermarket gears. Just what I have heard.

I am partial to Motive, but I work there, so........

I wouldnt go with pro gears (9310) if it will be used on the street. You can use the performance gears or the lightweight AX gears for a few dollars more. They save a couple of pounds w/o giving up strength.

I forgot to say that the main reason that I have heard that Motive are the best is because of whining issues. They tend to whine less.

Are particular Motive gears (performance or the AX) better as far as less whining?

We get very few noise returns on the preformance or AX lines. They are double lapped and cnc machined. They are primarily designed for circle track use, so they withstand the added heat cycles of street driving, but are also strong enough to use in serious street/strip type vehicles. Unless you are into the single digits you wont need a pro gear, a performance gear would be fine.

I would give Motive a thumbs up also I run them almost exclusively many ratios from 3.40 to 6.83 never had a failure under "extreme" conditions.. would also go with a REM surface treatement.....

What's the difference between Motive's Street and Performance gears? The Motive catalog is kinda vague. What kind of price difference is there between the two?

I've always been a fan of Yukon. Usually when there's a difference that balances around "heavy duty" or "super performance" its a thicker Gear. Reason for this of course is the higher the gear the more apparent it is to failing/breaking. The price difference is usually not much (sorry cant help on exact pricing), but the drive difference is different, the heavier duty gears are sposed to be louder than the lighter duty gears, I've never had this but I'm also usually 3 or so feet above the axles I build.

If you get a chance check out: www.completeoffroad.com

He has all sorts of gears and free shipping at a very understandable price, owners name is mike, made a ton of money off of me already and will continue to.

The performance gears are double lapped and go through different machining processes, which cost more money. It all comes down to easier set-up and quiter operation.
As far as thicker gear sets, that is only for different applications. If 2 brands of gears are for the same application they are the same thickness and made from almost the same material. Price difference between a performance and regular gear is minimal, 20-40 depending on where you buy it.
