Default Cam guys, I need your help! Which cam is right for me?

Guys, I know this has been posted up before but I'm usually on the LS1 forum so I have no idea as to what you guys think here. I'm looking for a very, very streetable cam for my car. Something like the GT2-3 by LPE but I just want to know if there are other, more cheaper options as well.
1. I don't want a rough idle.
2. It needs to be relatively quiet.
3. Needs to be easy to get maintanence b/c this car is my only car and it's a daily driver. I was told that either the B1 or T1 cam is good for my needs but I know that one of those is more suited for an M6. My car is a 99 Z-28 A4 with True duals, Hooker LT's, TSP lid, and a ported TB. I'd also like to not have to necessarily have it tuned.
Let me know what you think and also, if anyone has one that they're selling.
Thanks.

The TR "Old Man Cam", or the TR220/114, anything less that a 244 on a 114 should be pretty good

Hey Stang Killer, is tuning an absolute necessity with this cam? I'd like to avoid incurring the cost of tuning if possible.

Comp Cams LS1 Camshaft - 212 / 218 .522 / .529 114 LSA 1200-6000 RPM Power Band. Excellent low-end power. Mild Camshaft, great for automatic cars with the stock or mild aftermarket torque converter and daily drivers. Works well with Crane 1.8 Roller Rockers.

this well help.

I have the LPEGT2 in my car now & i didnt choose it the builder did , & its helping my $10K stroker produce 340 RWHP!! , i dont think there is a bigger hunk of crap on the planet , when i change cams i will take this cam & smash it with a slegdehammer so many times that it wont even make a good paperweight , ahhh maybe thats overly dramatic , if i were you id probably go with a hot cam kit ,ive heard enough good things about it
quote:
stang killer

So for you to get 340 with a stroker, there must be something wrong other then the cam. The cam is very good for someone who wants more power but doesn't want the sacrifices of a really big cam. I did change my cam to a TR224 to get as much power as possible but I still have respect for my old LPE cam. If you want to sell yours to that guy, he should jump all over it.

Mine was 205/212 .537 .536 116.5. Looking at my dyno sheet, the hp peaked at about 6,100 rpm and stayed level until the rev limiter kicked in.

hey lpe , where did your dyno max out at ( HP ) ? ,, because i peaked at like 5200 and 339 rwhp , i think this is just the wrong cam for a stroker , and its killing me!! im mad at rob crest @ lpe because he suggested this cam for my stroker to the builder , and he wouldnt return my calls , so yes im resentful ! , but im looking for a new cam and cant wait

Right at 380 rwhp is that is what you are asking. I would think that cam would be fine with a stroker because I belive that is what used for a long time with their strokers. If you are going with a new cam, I would suggest the TR cams. I just installed the TR224 114 and I really like it.

Well when I was done with h/c package at LPE.
I saw 405rwhp on the GT2 cam. Now im seeing over
500rwhp. If anyone noticed. Why do you think the Z06 02 and + make so much horsepower. Check the cam specs. Sort of looks like the GT2 cams huh. With the GT2 cam there is no heavy Idle
and doesnt even sound like you have a different cam. It performance varies do to the different combinations you use with.

For an A4 all of the 112 LSA cams are out based on your requirements too.

Unless regular valvespring maintenence (every 20-30K miles) does not bother you the B1, T1, and TR cams are probably out of the equation. If you go with a comp cam and do not want to have regular valvespring maintenence stay away from the Xe-r lobes.

Hope this helps

The B1 is a very streetable cam...

Comp Cams have some new cams out...... Moderate duration, moderate lift and a 113+ Lsa and you should be streetable..... Something like 220/224 566/568 114....Would be a max for street reliability, and you probably still need tuning with a A4

The LPE cams I particularly don't like. I tried emailing them a few times and never got a response. Also two other people emailed them for info and didn't get a response either......

LPE is very secretive. I dont even know exactly what they did. Ya, but about returning emails. Better off calling them.
Good People over there.

Nice upgrade from stock, excellent torque, good daily driver cam Lift: .522/.529 Dur@.050: 212/218 LSA: 114

this sounds good for what u want. u could get the LS6 springs and stuff and still have streetability, but i would see what the gains are compared to a LS6 cam. should be good though.

is that why it looks so much like MTI"s stroker grind 232/236 .580 ish on a 114 ? j/k

My car made 380 rwhp / 372 rwtq with the TR220/114 cam and stock heads. It is very tame, almost too tame. It idles a little rough when cold, but with the cats on, once it is up to temp you have to listen to tell there is even a cam in there. My car also ran fine with stock tuning.

A 224/244 .533/.533 113 LSA can be custom ordered at no extra cost, has a mild lope, and is easy on springs.
