Default AFR 205's & Futral F6 Cam, your thoughts

Need a good daily driver street set up. Will see the track a few times per year. Dont need an aggressive idol or lope, more concerned with great tq. Would like more compression from the heads.

Ive seen a few people run the 224/228 duration cams with the 205's. Id like to squeeze a little more cam in and was wondering how much, if any i could mill the heads. I searched and found some info on the F13 AFR set up but cant find much about the F6 cam at all.

Cam specs are
FMS Custom Grind Camshaft ( F6 ) - 226"/230" .575"/.595" 114LSA - semi-aggressive profile with a 2000-6800 RPM range, fair idle

Will be running with FAST 90, NW 90mm TB, Kooks Headers, ORY, Magnaflow CB, Lid, HPtuners tune and stock 3.42 gears for now.
Thanks

You should make killer power. Just make sure you get the cam ground +2 and not +4. This will help you make the top-end power you need. Mill the heads and run a gasket to allow you to achieve 11 to 1 compression and you should be at or above 450rwhp with ease.

I have .040" milled AFR heads with Comp Cam 234/238 .595/.605 114LSA. With 1,000 miles on the new engine (forged LS6) I put down 443/397 RWHP/TQ through 4.10's. The intake manifold is stock LS6 and have Kooks with cats. If you decide to go with FAST intake set up, you should be over 450/400 easy. BTW it's a Y-body.

If you are looking for smooth idle and lope I would go with the 224/228 on 114 cam they recommend. That with 11:1 compression would work great.

I think either would work pretty well but if your looking for a little more power in the middle and bottom of the curve, the 224/228 would probably get the nod. Also, the 224/228 cam has "quick" lobes on both intake and exhaust and would make for a slightly better daily driver choice (smoother idle, less low speed "protesting" if your lugging it around a slow corner in 3rd or something). I tell you....I have had this H/C package in my car for quite some time, and I still feel its the best all around performing package I have ever experienced (considering the CR and the displacement in question). Sure there are larger cams that could make more power, but for me, giving up some of the broader scope benefits this package achieves is almost a sin for the extra 10-20 HP. If my car was a "Weekend Warrior" the choice would be obvious, but for the few of you, LOL, that are concerned with good street manner while having your extra horsepower, the 224/228 delivers. Also, not sure if you would be able to mill the heads to an honest 11 to 1 with the slightly larger F6 cam....you have JUST enough room running our 224 cam if you are using the recommended .040 head gaskets.

Either way I'm sure you will be smiling....I think this is more a personal choice you have to make regarding where you want to slightly favor your power curve and street manners.

Enjoy the AFR's...

He may have wanted the less-aggressive lobes for better valvetrain life. Then of course you have to increase duration a bit to get the same top-end performance.

Hi Grant...

Just an FYI....I'm completely comfortable with the aggresiveness of our cam for daily driving with our "out of the box" valvesprings we offer with our heads (the "gold" springs). For someone looking for the ultimate in reliability we offer the Comp 921 duals. Very expensive but you get what you pay for, which in this particular case is the tremendous amount of "QC" that goes into the 921, (hopefully all but eliminating the chance of failure). Word has it the 921's go thru most of the same testing as some of the Winston Cup springs that Comp offers. Our standard spring as well as our 921 springs are extremely reliable.
