Default Hypertech 160 Stat in 2002 Camaro, IF you have one come in??

i just bought the hypertech 160 stat from summit racing and the part number is 533-1014, and it says it is for LS1 engines but there is no way that this stat is fitting in my car the 2 pieces holding the springs on both sides is too big. It is grounding out on the pump. My question is is there a different water pump on the 2002 camaros and firebirds becuase i now double checked on summit and it says it is only good for 1998-2001, and they dont have one for 2002. i also looked on Jegs and it says it is good for all years 1998-2002. So WTF is going on? Anyone have a Hypertech 160 on a 2002, and if so what is the model number. thanks

i just compared the thermostat out of my dads 2000 formula stock for stock and they are different. obviously the thermostats for 2002 are different. U can actually pull the stat out of the housing on mine 2002 as apposed to my dads 2000. What thermo do i need for a 2002 now??

Is there any chance that the water pump may have been changed on your '02? IIRC, it was in '04 that the change was made to the water pump/t-stat design. And I believe the new style pump will bolt right onto an older LS1. That could explain how yours ended up being different from other '98-'02 models.

That's what I'm thinking too - I've seen where people who had their water pump replaced with the new one - and the hypertech won't fit. The new pump comes with a 185, cooler ones are available from Vinci in Orlando.

What would prevent pulling the stat out of the housing
on a 2000? I've had mine apart several times, to shim/
remove shim to convert to a lower/normal opening temp.
I cant speak to any differences on the 2002. I only know
that 2000 and prior come as a complete unit (housing)
that I've seen.

I've read (here) that some aftermarket pumps are different,
don't know about stock, though.

the oil ring on my stock stat is connected to the stat it is not removeable like the hypertech 160, i can pull the stock stat out of the house without removing any clips or spinning it sideways, the stat just sits right in the housing using the rubber gasket that is around it, not like the hypertack that has a grove to fit into for the O ring, my dads 2000 one is like the hypertech too, just need to know if all 98-2002 camaro z28s have the smae stat and waterpump, if they do i know my is different, thanks, i will try to post some pics

you have the newer '04 design. must have had the water pump changed somewhere down the road.

Block isn't where the difference is. It's in the water pump housing itself.

If you want to check if you have a LS6 block:
