Default How can I tell if the oil pressure sending unit is broken?

I think I may have broken the oil pressure sending unit on my car when I was changing the manifold. What do those normally run, money wise? Thanks.

How will I actually know if it is broken? Is there supposed to be more than one metal tab where it plugs onto the block? I don't want to put everything back and then find out it is broken. I guess what I am asking is what is it supposed to look like?

when the plastic is seperated from the "base"

when you break it, you know. its kinda a pain to get to with the intake on, but you can still remove/install it

I honestly only tightened it finger tight (with an oil pressure socket) and its been good for 15k+ miles

I don't recall the size of the deep tube socket to remove the sender, but it's usually one of the largest in a 1/2 inch socket set. So if you can't see the sender, imagine a round cylinder shaped object that fits into a deep socket. It has a electrical socket on the top and the sender has threads at the bottom that screws into the block.

When it snaps off, it usually snaps above the metal piece (the threaded male hex nutted end) of the sender that screws into the block. I guess it's 50/50 whether the integrity of the valve and whether it was compromised below the sender valve or above the sender valve.

If it broke below it might leak oil, above and it won't. You can run the car even if the sender is broken, you just won't have the dash gauge to tell you what the oil pressure is until you replace the valve.

I had to remove the intake to replace the sender. I just didn't want to put up the frustration of bruised knuckles laying over the motor trying to replace the sender sight unseen. In addition, I would never have been able to size the socket to fit over the sender.

Good luck.

See that green thing at the far back. That is the oil pressure sending unit. If it's like 2" shorter then it's broken

Oh and go to autozone, they have an oil pressure sending unit socket. It will be similar to like a deep 18mm or something big like that.

Thanks for the pic. Mine is busted with part of it still in the block. I ordered mine from AutoZone for 39.99. They said it should take 2 days because it is a special order item.
