I am trying to keep the car as stock as possible til i drop in a new engine in the future, and i want to preserve the current warranty. Does an air lid with a granetelli MAF require a tuneing to make the car run right?

Nope they dont need tuning at all. And you will probably beable to get away with those mods at any car dealership unless you have a bunch of crooked people working at the one you go to.

You may need a MAFT to richen it some with a lid. That was my experience anyway. Tweaking the WOT MAFT setting on a dyno "found" me about 7-8 HP. People's experiences with aftermarket MAFs with stock internals seems to be pretty hit or miss. Seems like a lot of people go back to stock. I suggest you do a search to research it some before shelling out the cash. If you don't have an aftermarket shifter, your money may be better spent there, with some left over.

hey i put ported maf ends and a whisper lid on my 98 Z28 .it runs great and did not need any tuning.i also used the k&n filter too.

i never atap'ed with the stock lid but i did have to tune 3 degrees of KR away with my maft when my only mod was a lid.

DO you realized thats only 100 bucks away from some Jethots? ANd a third of the way to a set of coated Jethots with coated y pipe, including installation? 1050 in da car at FBC, all day long

Headers are a lot of money, but they work, no questions. i knwo guys going than everyoen else on ported stock MAFs. Keep 300 bucks in your pocket.

PS on grannys 02 we picked up 3 mph with a direct flo and ported stock MAF, back to back runs.. took it off after a few and 3 mph lost

Just a comment about not needing the tuning...

You can get away by doing these mods and not require any tuning, but on average the car will continue to run rich. My SS ran way rich with just a lid, filter, y-pipe and a baffle. Just using Atap and LS1Edit made my car run night and day difference by the seat of the pants method. I figure I got at least a tenth by just tuning it.

"Better" MAFs don't require tuning. Inaccurate
MAFs (relative to stock cal expectations of the
PCM) require tuning. Of course, every aftermarket
MAF is "better" according to the advertisement,
and "inaccurate" may be an improvement or a
detriment depending on your model year, mod list

My fuel trims were pretty much neutral with my stock MAF and existing Predator tuning. When I installed my friend's SLP 85 MM, they went to -3 and -7 in closed loop. So if I end up keeping the 85 MM I will lean some more with the Predator. And next time I head to the dyno (soon) I will dial it in. But -3 and -7 are certainly not excessive and I'm sure you could get by without tuning. Not sure how much power you would gain, but it wouldn't absolutely require A/F adjustment. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
