Default Plan on buying a sport bike soon, help me decide.

Can't decide between brands. I don't want anything less than 900cc as my father had a Honda CBR900RR (921cc) and was accustomed to the power. I asked a buddy of mine this same question and he suggested a GSXR1000, but then again I'm sure he told me that as he's biased on Suzukis as he owns one. He just recently traded in his GSXR600 for a 1300R Hayabusa. The price difference between a GSXR1000 and a 1300R is only like $500, but in my opinion, 2 completely different bikes. Personally, if I had to decide between the 2, I would go with the 1000 as its lighter and will have better handling. Of course the 1300R will be faster, but I've heard that 1/4 time, they're very close. I'm not looking to drag this bike, do any street racing, etc. its strictly to cruise and possibly take me back and forth to work to save on fuel as my diesel truck isn't necessarily an economical vehicle. I plan on purchasing it new. So with all of that in mind, what do you suggest for a bike?

Get the SS back on the track, but as far as bikes go, a GSXR 1300 rides like a Cadillac, and the 1000 is a animal.

If you aren't going to race it, and are trying to get an economical 'cruiser', then why do you need more than a 600? Or even a 750? It's not like those bikes are slow by any means.

Sounds more like an ego/status purchase, not a useful one. Nobody is going to rag you for buying a 600 or 750, those bikes are still respectable and quick enough for 99% of the population.

GSXR 1k is king of the streets. If I had to pick a second choice I would go with the zx10r.

And it has been that way for at least 5 years, to the point that the other 3 had to up their game significantly.

INVISIBLEZ, the SS will be on the track soon...hopefully. I've been waiting patiently for the Warhawk block, but I may end up doing a milder setup like a 402 as I don't want to spend the money having a LS1/LS2 resleeved. For the cost of resleeving, I'd rather put towards the Warhawk block, get more cubes, and the peace of mind of a stronger block.

I have heard also that the 1300R is more of a sport touring bike, although it retains a big motor, it rides smooth, and very comfortable.

Urban Legend, wow, I didn't realize that it was that fast in the 1/4 mile. Then again, that is also dependent on the driver, track prep, etc. The hardest part of dragging a bike is the launch. I don't think I could drag it to a high 9. Its not gona happen anyway as I don't plan on drag racing it.

2002C5COUPE, ha, I wish, very far from it.

Nine Ball, no I won't be racing it, but as mentioned before, I've rode a few 600s and the 900 my father used to have, and the 600s just didn't have the power I was looking for in the 900. It has nothing to do with status or ego, I just rather have the bigger bike. I could care less what sticker they slap on the side of the bike or what people think about what I ride. Either way, both bikes will be very economical at 45+ mpg.

To all the rest, I just happened to mention the GSXR1000 because that is what my neighbor, who has been riding for a while suggested. Everyone of you suggested the same bike. This must be a superior bike as no one even mentioned any other model or brand/make for that matter such as Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, etc. What is it about the GSXR1000 that stands above the rest?

Well here you go...CBR. I have a 03 CBR 600rr and love it. I dont have anything against the gsxr's though as I used to have a 94 gsxr 750. It was my first bike and it too was a fun bike. The only real difference between them powerwise was the 750 had a little more torque. If it were me it would be between the GSXR and the CBR, both are very nice.

If you plan on turning, get the 1000. Straight line only riding is good for the busa.

well I've owned every new 1000 with the exception of the zx10..With that being said,if your looking for best all around get the g1000..There's no other 1000 that touches it in a straight line and the handle and wheelie great..The Honda 1000rr is the most comfortable bike and in my opinion handles the best. The only things with the rr is first off it's the slowest 1000 and secondly they don't wheelie for ****..I liked me r1 but i never really just "fell in love with it" so to speak..I do like the brake and fork setup though..I felt comfortable doing indos on it than any of the others.

Suzuki can build a hell of a bike, but cannot build a fast car...

Any of the liter bikes are good enough for doing commuting work(I'm partial to the CBR1000r or the R-1 as I used to have these in my younger days). As for riding really fast on the streets a good 600 can't be beat for handling, usuable power etc.; I used to always say in order to move up to a liter bike you should be able to keep up or even beat the average person who rides a liter bike. If you are strictly commuting then the GSXR1300 is the way to go.

Get a GSXR 750, best of both worlds, Light as 600 but strong as a 1000, best all around sportbike. im getting a little over 40mpg right now on mine, 1000 Gixxer's are nice but really how much power can you use on the streets with all these idiot drivers? Plus its been while since you owned a sportbike (CBR900RR) my old 01 750 would smoke Honda's and alot has changed since 01', Suzuki makes some of the most powerful bikes on the market right now. 750 is a just right sportbike (plus you can always mod it if it isnt enough )

Hold on a minute, you're purchasing a bike to get better fuel milage? Have you done the math on the added payments, insurance, and other gear needed to own this thing? You mean to tell me that spending several thousand dollars to get you a liter bike is going to save you money on fuel? How so? Besides, its not like you can drive it everyday. It does rain down there (last I checked) and if it gets fairly cold in the winter, I doubt youll ride it then. So how exactly will added payments be better for you over paying a little more at the pump?

Just curious, it doesnt make sense to me, maybe I'm over looking something here...
