Default what should i clean my heads off with...

after i remove them from the block? they will be going back on, im just changing to thinner gaskits

Use one of those sanders that vibrate, after you take all the big **** off with a razor blade.

You might get lucky like I did, my head gaskets looked like they just came out of the package in one piece. They looked like two new ones all in one nice piece.

Those green scotchbrite pads worked great for getting the mating surface of my heads clean. That along with some brake cleaner.

You should also seriously consider having a machine shop true up the heads, a light pass ( afew thousandths) is inexpensive and good insurance.

that's what i did. i actually used the rougher burgundy colored ones but the green will work great also. on a side note i tried to use a vibrating sander to polish my valve covers and wound up just using sand paper and alot of elbow grease since the valve covers are so rough but i didn't try it on the heads.

Wire wheel on a cordless drill did the trick on my valves. Also taking some degreaser and simple green worked for getting the heads to look new again.

Just don't sand blast them....pretty much bottom line.
