Default PCM connector screws

How are you guys getting the screw out of the PCM connectors? I have pried and pried on the holding washer trying to bend it enough to remove, but it won`t budge. I have also been tapping on the head of the screw as well, no luck.

Why do you need to remove it in the first place?
I would take some wire cutters and cut the retaining washer, then it should come out.

I`m converting a stock A4 engine harness to work in my 67 camaro. I need to remove these screws so I can take off the back connector cover to do some pinouts. Wire snips aren`t going to fit in there to cut the washer.

There is no need to pull the screws out for putting in or pulling out connector pins. You just snap off the gray wire covers and the red/blue connector covers, push the locking tab on the connector pin and you're set.

The screw goes through the gray wire cover and then through the connector. You can`t remove the gray cover because the screw is holding it on as well as the tabs, but the screw is locked into place with a washer.

The screw doews not hold the gray cover on, you aren't pulling hard enough.

The screw goes through the gray cover. Of course it`s not specifically holding the gray cover on. The screw has a kind of barb on it and the lock washer fits just beneath this barb. This lock washer`s purpose is for the screw to not fall out when the harness is unplugged from the PCM. I have some very small wire cutters from my electronics technician days and the space is too small to insert even those. I have tried prying the washer out with small screw drivers with no avail. I`m at a loss. I must be stupid.

Got it off. Your right, I wasn`t pulling hard enough. Guess I was trying to be too delicate with it in trying not to break it. Lack of sleep causes ignorance.

Has anyone actually ever gotten those gray plastic things off without breaking atleast one of the little tabs??? I couldnt for the life of me get them all out without snapping one. When I was re-wiring my harness, I spent lots of time trying to be careful and pop it off...then finally I got pissed and just yanked it. Came off, but left a tab behind. haha.

It seemed like one tab wanted to stay connected no matter what angle you tried to get that gray cover off, but a little finagling sp? got it off.

It is possible to remove without breaking the tabs, I have removed mine a few times. I had to use a very small regular screwdriver to pry it off and work 1 tab at a time.
