Default backfiring/no grunt after longtubes

well i installed my LTs over the past 2 days. ORY and no cat. car has exhaust leaks at the collectors, but not much. well i checked today and the porcelain on #5 plug was shaved off in a little are and it was all the way through to the top terminal. would that cause a backfire at idle and when off the gas? plug wires are fairly new and they arent touching the primaries. seens like it didnt backfire with open headers or during the first idle start with ORY. it started doing it after i revved it a little.

also i ran the car open headers to move it overnight. O2s never set off any DTC codes. im OBD1 so i dont know if they would.

and the engine seems to hesitate until higher RPM, but i need more pedal to get up and go. im thinking header break in because im running rich, but i dont know it OBD1 has a break in.

I'd replace #5. No sense in leaving it like that, and if it's cracked (not visible to the eye), that could cause problems too.

Double check all of your plugs and plus wires -- usually a lot of people replace them while they do headers because it is a whole helluva lot easier to do.

ok plugs been replaced. running smooth now.

one of my wires is 1mm from the primary... so i gotta heatwrap the wire.

question, the coolant temp sensor wire connector feels kinda loose you can wiggle it while its connected. is that normal?

The one in the waterpump in the front? Or the sensor in the driver's side head?

It should be pretty snug. I remember when I was doing plugs one time I touched mine and it was pretty loose, when I messed with it actually snapped. Its like a $10 part at the dealership, just make sure the car is cool when you swap them out, although you'll still lose a little bit of coolant.

ok driving it around and on cold start (open loop) it runs great. only closed loop and sometimes coming out of a stop itll act up. i gotta put my new o2s in the old ones are 13 years old.

itll backfire after driving around lightly on idle and coming out of stops at too low of an rpm itll try and die a little.

Backfires are caused by less back pressure too, I think.

As for the sensor connector, it's fine. I have sensors where the retention clip has snapped off Their weather proofing gasket (rubber grommet looking) hold them in enough since they don't wobble about. If you don't like it, goto NAPA and get a new plug, they're only like $2.50, if that since it's a common GM part.

What do you mean? The connector, or the O2? You won't have a problem with Bosch's unless you drop it or your system is running that bad. Lets hope that fixes it.

If your Headers are coated I have been told that when it cures after a few heat cycles it kills your 02's. I had to change mine after my header install.
