Question how much rwhp increase?

how much rwhp can I expect to gain from installing a big cam no heads (don't have numbers, just guess on them)? I am trying to decide if it's worth the extra 1200 dollars to get heads as well or keep the stock LS1 heads...

depends on the cam and your other mods. try going to the internal engine section and looking around in there... there are threads all over the place about larger cams with track/dyno numbers, etc.

With a "big" cam you can probably hit around 400-410rwhp with your auto, assuming you get a ls6 intake.

Get like a cam with 600 or more liftand then get some ported 5.3/4.8 chevy heads and with good intake and exhaust you will be making around 450rwhp with a good tune.

get your stock heads ported and polished you will see a good gain in horse power and while you get that done you might as well do your roller rocker arms srings and pushrods.

If you go with a bigger cam you might want to get a convertor. That would get you in your powerband better.

depending on your setup you dont want to go to big. so people are useing MS3 cams and even bigger with hardley any bolt on. i think its over kill. i bould stick with a cam that makes power under 6500. and you have to have the supporting mods first. id invest in a set of headers, intake and even gears and a converter before i would do a cam swop..but thats my opinion
