Default What heads with Trex?

I was pretty much sold on the MS4 cam for my car but after ALOT of searching and reading I'm considering the Trex now.... as it's more of a strip cam, which is what I'm looking for. And from what I read it responds amazingly well to nitrous, which is definitely in my future plans.

Only question is what heads would best compliment this cam? And will flycutting be necessary? Thanks!

I use the stage 2's from thunder racing with my t-rex and they work real well. You will need to flycut.

i had this cam it is awsome it went 12.05 at 116. with a crappy ls1 intake. the cam is made to make the very most power with stock heads. i was very impressed, i hope i can find a cam that performs that well in a big cube stroker.

If you dont want to flycut then go with PRC LS6 stg 1.5 Heads they work awesome with Trex or MS4 and you catn beat the price.

These heads made 35rwhp and 22rwtq just heads swap no BS.

Ive been looking around for what people have run. I heard the PRC's work good, I also heard AFR's and TFS give a little more ptv clearance than a stock head would give since they are different casting. I think im probably going to settle on the PRCs when its all said and done. But maybe more people who have the cam and non 241 heads would chime in with results I might be swayed!

I'm leaning towards the PRC 1.5's since I checked the price on the AFR's and ET's and they are like in the neighborhood of $2,000-$3,000 and the PRC's are in the neighborhood of $1,000. Would there really be that big of a difference between the AFR's, Et's and the PRC's? I can't see it being worth the extra thousand or two....

I wonder now though which cam would be better for my application: the MS4 or Trex?

Isn't the TREX for stock heads? If you're buying heads anyway, get a custom cam.

we've run our PRC Stage 1 LS6 heads with that setup & had great results. We had the Smokin01TA car here & it made right at 490-500hp with stg 1 ls6 heads!

ETP's is a no brainer on this combo. What good is changing heads if you can't increase compression? With the T-rex cam or any aggressive head and cam package compression is a main factor in making power. With compression (milling) P/V clearence is used up and flycutting becomes a must. This is a pain in the *** and could be expensive if you have someone else do it. So that is where the ETP heads comes in.
The head itsself starts life as a 62cc casting which means nearly 11:1 compression using a GM gasket. So your already gaining nearly a full point of compression without having to flycut or change piston's. Now lets say you want more.
Well ET's head free's up right around 100 thousands of P/V clearence. Now you can mill the head run a thinner gasket set the combo up for 11.5:1+ and still have some not have to flycut the pistons. And on top of all that your get one of the best if not the best flowing head on the market.
To me when trying to do a great H/C package without flycutting the ET head is the best choice.
Did you notice we are doing a sale on ET heads right now?

AFR heads are still 15 degrees and have larger than stock valves. You're going to have to flycut. The TFS and ET heads have different valve angles and allow greater than stock PtV clearance.

+1, Pick a nice set of heads to use and have a custom cam built around the characteristics you want. If you're stuck on the TRex I'd use some ported 243 castings than have been milled and flycut the pistons.

It was a Trex car that ran so well for smokin01TA! The Trex & MS4 camshaft clears the prc stage 1 ls6 heads with 62 cc chambers!

I'm watching this thread as I have the Trex in already and was thinking about doing heads. Mine runs 11.9's on the stock 98 heads and intake.

jason, will the trex or ms4 clear stage 2 prc LS6 heads, or any stage 2 or 3 heads? I am looking at your Ms4 cam closely for my cam swap... i have an 01 Z06. i do not want to flycut...
