speedmaster 96mm intake manifold swap thread
Starting a new thread for this swap thread, just received the intake today. This manifold was tested in the hotrod magazine intake manifold shootout back in the end of july. http://www.hotrod.com/features/1507-...ifolds-tested/
It has a retail price of $220 dollars, full cast aluminum with a removable bottom. Includes gaskets, and all hardware with the exception of a throttle body and fuel rail. Comes in both LS1/LS6 and LS2 styles (for port and map sensor positions) and with 86mm and 96mm 3 bolt and 4 bolt openings. The one i have here is an LS1/LS6 96mm 4 bolt application. It weighs exactly 26 pounds, roughly 8 pounds more then a Fast LSXR 102. 8.5" long runners and a large plenum volume support high RPM power up to 7000rpm.
Ill be doing test fitment probably sometime this week to verify if it needs any modification to fit behind the power steering pump an reservoir assembly but judging by the measurements I have taken on the stock manifold, no modification should be required for this. The short runners should provide plenty of clearance on that end. The map sensor hole by the throttle body is closed on the LS1/LS6 versions but the opening is cast into the throttle neck, so it can be used, it just needs to be drilled and tapped. The runners are channeled on the top to allow for clearance of stock fuel rails, but i still have to test fit the LS4 rail and see if that will work, or if aftermarket rails will be required. Injector hat extenders may be required.
The gaskets included in the kit are a coated paper gasket, and are NOT the new design provided with the professional products typhoon manifolds which these are cast on the same design. The PP gaskets with the nitrile sealing ring around the ports can be found here..

Can see here some minor casting flash and on each of the end runners, what look like plugs almost, i would assume from the sand casting process. Easily corrected though with some light porting.
gaskets arent the best quality, but very heavy duty, and very thick. Ill be reinforcing these with a gasket shellac to make sure it has a good seal.

With any of the injector extenders it should theoretically fit over one of the center channels between the runners without issue, I have to check it though. That would be fantastic though if it fit, thats what im hoping for as it cuts down on the need for an aftermarket rail kit. Ill still need the katech OPSU adapter, and ill be picking up a low profile gen 4 valley cover off ebay and modifying it to work with the adapter. Shouldnt require a low profile valley tray though, just what i could find cheapest however.

It's a bitch being front wheel drive lol from a dig any RWD or AWD car with any sort of decent amount of power can smoke me off the line, but from a roll, held about a car length and a half from my buddies mid 12 second GTO on a good night. This and a wideband are on my to do list for power mods.
