I would never buy uncoated headers unless they were stainless. Just from the longevity stand point alone. There will eventually be a time that you get caught out in a rainstorm or shower and you can kiss the bottom of the black headers good bye. Plus the coating will make it much easier to work on because they cool off almost instantly. I have changed plugs 10 minutes after the car was driving for over an hour without wearing gloves or getting any sort of burns.

ceramic will also keep the heat inside the header, so lower engine bay temps.



i vote coated since they work great and look so much better than rusty ones

Ceramic is the way to go unless you can afford stainless. Less heat in the engine bay as well as longer life of the headers. IMO it is better to not buy headers if you cant afford ceramic or stainless.

I am a broke *** budget builder, i only buy black coated new, i might have them powder coated for the hell of it, but unless i find some good used ceramic parts, forget it. I am just on too tight of a budget, as far as looks go, i dont give a ****.

i got basic ones and used 400 grit sandpaper to rough them up, got a 7 dollar can of bbq grill paint...flat blakc finish and painted them...after about a week not 1 chip...did it on my last set without sanding and have a few small ships right at the head...id do this again in a heartbeat for how cheap it was

i just got the black finished pacesetters. Most of it has burnt off. I live in ca so rust isn't an issue.

Dunno, no problems with them but in hindsight I wish I had coated them. I may still have them coated some day. Or just buy new ones, they're pretty cheap.

Getting them coated really isn't about the look as you can really only see the primaries anyway. It's about extending the life of the header and keeping things in your engine bay cooler.

You might try to get the colored ceramic coating if that's what you want. The black is supposed to dissipate heat more evenly.

I only use my Camaro on weekends,i've got Hooker shorties for the moment but i want to get LT's now & im never gona drive it in rain.as for performance will it make a difference coated vs uncoated??

At one point or another the bottom of the car WILL get wet and you will wish you had gotten coated if you don't get them now.

Once ceramic, never back. I've spent hours prepping and painting hi-temp black on headers only to have it burn off - whether it's 1 week or 3 months later - and rust and look like ***.

Jet-Hot used to have the market locked, but about 4 years ago the processes called SilvaChrome or Ceramicoat hit the plating market and now you can get a set of headers done for as low as $140, generally locally. I like the silver for headers but have used the grey for other tubing.
