Default Intake and Rear End Question

Alright first thing, did I read right that the Firebird Formula does come with the ls6 intake or is it just stock?

And im hearing alot about upgrading the rear end...What parts are we talking about?

Thanks!

An ls6 intake cam on every 01-02 ls1 motor in the f-body. 98-00 had the LS1 intake. Pretty simple there.

Rear end... Generally if you have a M6, you should go with a 9". If you are an A4 you should be going with a 12 bolt unless you plan on making big hp.

If you are a street car only and don't do a lot of hard launches you will be fine the the 10 bolt(what's under your car now)

Check out the stickies. There's more info in there.

Here's some general rear info and some more info on the stock 10 bolt and how long it could last. Basically, the stock rear could last you deep into the 11's or it could break driving down the road, it's kind of hard to say and depends on the car/how it's driven. BlkBird had it dead on about upgrades (don't spend much on strenthening the 10 bolt) and that the auto is nicer on it.

Get your throttle body ported and polished. Thats a good bang for the buck mod alot of guys/gals on here do.

NO. The LS6 intake was not specific to the Formulas or any other car. It is year specific. 2001 and 2002 cars came with the LS6 intake, all other years (98-00) came with the LS1 intake. a ported TB isnt going to net you much power, but theres people who will port them for you on here for $50 if you dont want to do it yourself. definitely dont bother buying a bigger TB unless you get a FAST manifold.

As for the rear, dont bother upgrading the 10 bolt. Gears are the most I would do, otherwise start saving for a 12 bolt or 9".

What trans do you have?

I would not worry about the rear at all, if you have an auto. Unless you plan to drag race exclusively with the car, or intend to make serious power.

All the weak rear end comments usually come from the M6 guys. It takes a great deal of effort to break a 10-bolt with an A4 in my experiance.
