Default How are my 1/4 times.. am I headed in the right direction?

Is something wrong with the car, or am I heading in the right direction?

Car has the mods that are in my sig:

2.303 60'
8.724 1/8
89.29 1/8 MPH
13.045 1/4
114.19 1/4 MPH

These passes were made on Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP (27 PSI)

Trap prep here in Hawaii is horrible also.. I'm installing a T/A Girdle and running a set of ET Streets.. I'd just like your opinions on if I'm heading in the right direction. Do you see the potential for 11's?

Thanks for any input.. or suggestions

If i were watching you, I'd tell you two things......
1) Work on your Launching....You seem a little off there considering your trap speed. A good rule of thumb i think is if you are trapping over 110 mph in a 6 speed car, you should cut 60' s under 2.000. I don't nessecarily think ET Streets are the key either. I'd try to work on some stickier street tires first(depeding on how much you drive your car). Also, be prepared to get a new rear-end if your taking a 110+mph car w/ a M6 and launching on ET Streets.....

2) you have got to get used to your car. How long have you had this setup? It seems your a little inconsistent. If i were you, i'd spend a day a the track just learning the car with the setup you have before modding anymore. That car should go low 12's consistently. I think the shifter will help alot with that.

Either way,

Good luck with it man, and stick at it!

It was my first weekend at the track with my total current setup. It was tuned Sat. morning and I was at the track that night. I'm definitely new to the drag scene. Only been to the track in the car about 6-7 times. I'm having a lot of trouble on the launches.. I heat the street tires up good.. I've tried going from about 2k and I spinout. I also tried going from idle and almost bogged.

The best 60' was a 2.148. That's the best that I've ever gotten.. Should I use Nitto DDR's?

yea, I mean, if you have the money backed up to drop in a new rear end/rebuild your own, I say got with ET Streets. If you dont, then either practice launching on your tires you have now, or get the DR's.

All you need to do with street tires is just do a quick little tire spin to get any dirt, sand, etc off. Heating them up might be what hurt ya

I would say work on your launch as much as you can. Between your 60 foot and your reaction time, I think you'd be good to hit those low 12s, possibly 11s if you play the cards right. Are you letting go of the clutch when the green light pops? I always launch before the green light comes on, usually about the middle or end of the last amber light. Try doing something like that. You'd be suprised how much you can cut that time down

But yeah, don't burn the street tires, and I bet you'll be better off. Best of luck, keep us informed

Don't forget the rear end (9/12/8.8) and umm a line lock to go with those et slicks.

probably better off just throwing nitto 555 DR's on so you get some time out of that 10 bolt. That TA girdle, well when you bust a cap in it, will be a very expensive TA girdle with a big hole/crack in it, so i'd skip that.

Alright.. I've been just wasting my tires .. I had a mustang guy tell me to heat the hell out of them.. I guess I should have known not to listen to him..

Because whenever I had an issue with the car, he response was always.. " GET BIGGER INJECTORS"

On my launches... I get on it right as the last amber comes on. Sometimes I'm asleep as you can see from the reaction times.

So let me list what I've gotten from you guys:

Don't heat the street tires
Don't bother with the T/A Girdle
Use Nitto 55R and not ET Streets
and just PRACTICE...

Thanks Alot!

Stop using the cut-out. It's not necessary on your car, it only makes it louder. Your car will make more torque with the exhaust...you're losing power. Take a look at your ET and trap times in combination with your 60' times. The first 60' is THE MOST CRUCIAL point on the 1/4 mile. Get your 60' time down.

No offense dude,

But your reaction time has NOTHING to do with your ET

r/t has nothing to do w/ ET. Clock doesn't start until you trip the lights.

Cut-outs don't affect your torque very much. Any that it does is made up throughout the RPM band anyhow. Put some DR's on those 16x8s and practice launching. Dip in the box and carry out through second. They will stick. T.A. girdlies are a good investment. They secure the rear and will prolong the life and duribility of your rear. But do not run the E.T.'s on the rear unless you are willing to get towed home. The DRs on your stock rear are a good way to practice launching. Once your consistant, put in a 12 bolt with some E.T.s and beat the **** out of it!

the 60 foot is everything. period. get some tires and a rear that will stand up to them and you'll be set. good luck.
