SES light due to a MAF
Hey Fellas
I am a chick with a red ws6 and I let my boyfriend (ex) do the free maf porting and after a while it was fine until a few months ago. Now the lights comes on after 200 miles and goes off. I brought it to "Mr. Goodwrench" and theu told me it was the MAF. they were trying to charge me $450!!! for the OEM one and labor. I can get a GRanatelli one from Summit for $100 cheaper .
the question now is if I put the mew one in will it void the ses light? or will I have to get it cleared?
please help guys.

Thanks Ryan, but if I get the new one installed will it take out the ses light or do I have to take it back to the dealer?

Get a MAF out of the local junkyard that still has the
screen, and swap the ends on if you don't trust the
electronics. You can use the ends off a LT1 or LS1.
If the SES doesn't go off in a couple of start & drive
turns you may have to get the codes reset. Some go
away on their own, dunno if these will.

AutoZone & others will at least read your code. Then you might know for sure if it was the work your ex did on the MAF, or something else he did, or maybe something else entirely. Dealers tend to blame everything on any mods they find.
I'd guess he screwed up the sensor when he removed the screen. Those wires are tiny & very fragile so it's easy to do. And since your light turns off by itself, most likely fixing the sensor will make the code go away. Anyone in your area with a tuner (LS1Edit, HP Tuner, Predator) can read & clear the code for you too.
By the way, I run Grantelli MAF ends on my car & get no codes. Good luck!

She says "porting" though, so maybe he hogged it out
and messed up the metering that way.
I got rich MAF codes when I pulled the resistor off my
SLP MAF (making it a truck MAF essentially). You have
have to have trims outside +/-25% to get MAF mixture
codes. If the GMAF only puts you to +20% you will not
light it up.
