Suggestion: Moderated Software Debate
Given that we often have the questions regarding which software is better for tuning, I would like to suggest to the Moderators and Manufacturers (especially now that they are both site sponsors) that we Sticky a Moderated Software Debate, modeled after typical moderated political debates.
I have thought of some suggested rules to govern the debates as follows, and others may have additional suggestions. I think a sticky debate of this sort would help point out the advantages for both products and help clarify the customer bases knowledge.
Here are the suggested rules:
1. Each manufacturer will be allowed to create an opening post to describe their softwares features and advantages, bullet or numbered list format is recommended but not required. Comparison to competitors products are allowed, but must be in a bullet format and must cover only one feature per bullet and not exceed 50 words. These will be the first two post in the thread after the moderators introduction.
2. Each manufacturer will then be allowed a follow up/rebuttal post not exceeding 1000 words (I just picked a number - maybe a different number would be better). Again bulleted or numbered list format is recommended for all text and required for comparison text with the same rules as above.
3. Questions will then be taken from board members on a first come, first served basis. The question may be directed at either manufacturer or both, but must be identified in the question. The receiver of the question will be allowed to respond before any other post are made. If the response includes any reference to the other manufacturer, they will also be allowed to respond before additional post are taken.
4. The debate will continue in this format , and can be re-energized with each new software release.
So what do you guys think of the idea ? What are guidelines/rules would be helpful ? Would the manufacturers be willing to debate in a structured, controlled, moderated post ? If this is successful, I could see this concept extending to several other products, including clutches, headers, etc.

I would hope for something more substantive than your
typical moderated political debate. Though it would be
hard to arrive at less. Eye-gouging should be permitted
and groin-biting specifically encouraged
First one to say "methodology" is declared the loser. In
fact there should be a longer list of marketing jabber
that deducts points or results in corporal punishment
during the breaks.
Every contestant should be allowed one 5-minute screed
per session with the provision that his microphone will be
piped only to his own earpiece, and the rest of us are fed
random comedy bits (to elicit proper audience response).
In case of tie the outcome will be decided by a brass-knuckle
scrum, based on final tooth count.

we could turn this whole thread into a brand X vs Brand Y approach.
What could be done to be more beneficial imho, is list all of the features the ideal software would contain. Then everybody can strive to meet this goal. Both of the current comanies have some major benefits, and major weaknesses. Each has a different mindset of how they do business. If it was kept reasonable, then this could be a good open forum for all companies, as long as nobody posts anything unreasonable, such as "tune all cars/trucks for $99"

Well, that was the whole point of it being a "moderated" discussion. All "emotional" post or attacks would be deleted.
Although, judging by jimmyblue, MrDude, and TAQuickness's responses - the whole idea is a laughable anyway
Oh well, so much for trying to allow the manufacturers to separate the facts from the "I heard from a friends wifes brother in law" bullshit

they do the exact same thing (HPtuners and EFIlive... LS1edit sucks)
how many people do you know that has both?
i dont know any either.
they're both capable, and they both have their quirks... theres no real pluses or minuses to either one. just interface, and the support online..

HPT No longer employes a software license fee/upgrade fee... hasn't since April 19th....
However, let's keep this thread on topic...
I've expressed my opinion to the author... in a nutshell.. i'm 100% convinced it will turn into a flamefest/bashing as has happened so many times before...

I would like to see this work. Could the thread be made so that Mike Horist is the only one to post in it and all input is feed to him. I have looked at all the sites but there are still lots of questions.
