Noise at start up. Lifter?
I know, here is another lifter or piston slap thread.
I'll keep it simple, tick coming from the dirver side of the block. Lasts no more than a minute and goes away. It sounds like an underwater tick?? Has a tad bit of a whistle/whine to it. And it speeds up with the revs. Car has been on and out of service for the past 2 years, so it sits a lot. LQ9 226/230.
Getting her ready for new trans, TC, and tune. I don't wan't to waste money for a tune if heads have to come off...might be an excuse for an upgrade.
Is this something I should be worried about. Does the head need to come off?
Appreciate the help.
Thanks

Id be worried about it sounds like a failing lifter. That knock you here is the lifter crashing into the cam.
Here is mine doing the same thing.
Caused complete engine failure redone the whole engine. But I didnt shut it down quick enough. Dont rev yours or even start it anymore till you atleast pull the valve covers and check for loose rockers while turning it over with the crank bolt.

I was hoping it was not going to be a big deal.

First time I noticed it, after picking it up from my transmission guy, I drove it back 20 miles, trans is still acting up so it's been sitting for a while. But didn't think much of the tapping.....until now.
I did read somewhere that it could be a loose converter bolt. Might try that Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed
