Default Drilled and Slotted Rotors

Hey, i have a question, i put a set of drilled and slotted rotors and new pads on my car. Well i thought my car would stop a lot better, but it doesnt. Whats the purpose of drilled and slotted rotors? I know that they let gases and brake dust exit better, but if your pads have less surface area, then it seems like it really wouldnt help any??

true to a point... slotted are for cleaning off the pad and like you said, let "some" gases escape.. BUT.. mostly people use these for the looks factor... nothing more.

the drilled and slotted rotor, along with your stock pads regular brake fluid, is not going to net you better stopping force..

pads and fluid are the key factors... since we are talking about stock calipers.. blanks are better if you are looking for better stopping ability..

get some hawk HPS pads, ATE Super Blue brake fluid, Brembo or Duralast(autozone) blank rotors. this will get you some decent stopping power..

if you need more than that.. go to Hawk HP plus (normall for auto X) and upgrade to DOT stainless steel braided lines (reduces flex in the brake line). you can also do the C5 brake upgrade if you want to go bigger.. i just did this upgrade myself.. very easy.

drilled and slotted rotors are more for autox. They wont necessarily make you stop faster unless you upgrade your calipers also but they will help you by not heating up as quickly which will cause your brakes to fade which will put you with no brakes eventually.Of course that is all under very extreme driving such as autox or if you like hauling *** on winding mountain roads.

i put the Eradispeeds on my car due to the fact that i warped my blanks after 2 months. ive had my Eradispeeds a year now with no problems. i use the stock calipers and Hawk HPS pads with no complaints. but i agree with everyone else, unless you drive HARD stick with some blanks or upgrade to the C5 brakes.

But 2-3K to go faster is acceptable. I just don't get it ...

Not accurate I'm sorry to say. Slots do nothing to reduce heat or brake fade. Pads fade, not rotors, and slots aren't there for cooling but for out-gassing which really only is problematic with big race compound pads on cars without power brakes (most race cars) since the gas layer has to be pushed through and power brakes make that easy.

Anyone who hasn't read this FAQ at the top of this thread category I strongly recommend reading this. I find it funny how people just brush this off dispite the quotes coming directly from the brake manufacturers.

Hell I can also go to many other performance car forums and find similar brake faqs

The brakes i have now work fine, i dont see why i should upgrade them. Spending money to go faster is totally different.

You are confusing ... if they work fine, why try something different? You said you didn't want to spend any money on brake upgrades.

No cross drilled/slotted rotors will stop better than stock ones given both have the same pads. Pads are what stop you better. HP+ pads will stop way better than a stock pad.

Did you read the brake sticky?

Well what happened was, my front 2 rotors went bad, instead of just replacing them with stock one, i replaced all my rotors with drilled and slotted ones, and new pads. I thought i was going to get a huge improvement in stopping, but i didnt.
