EFI Drag Racing Shootout at Fontana
Based on the interest from this thread:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/western-m...-shootout.html
I have been working in the background to get us an EFI-only Domestic drag racing event. I tried to get it at Famoso but I still havent gotten a call back from them since I first spoke to them on July 1. So Fontana it will be. Fontana has dates available at the end of January or the first week in February. The only problem I have with those dates is being kinda close to the L.A. Invasion. Do you think it would be a conflict?
I want to make it for EFI-powered cars only because the NHRA and PSCA already cater to carb cars. We need events out here that showcase how awesome EFI is and that you dont need a carb to go fast.
I want to open it to all domestic cars so we can have GM vs Ford vs Dodge and get some rivalry going. I expect to have 300 cars at around $55 per car. Trophies and purses will come from the entry fee. Hopefully we can get some NorCal, Nevada, and Arizona cars to participate, too.
So what do you say? Are you interested for sure? I will need some help running the event, getting a website, and getting the word out on the Ford and Dodge websites. You can send me an email, as I dont check PMs here all that often.
The classes I suggest would be:
Class 1: Bracket racing, open to all ETs.
Class 2: 13 second index, heads up
Class 3: 12 second index, heads up
Class 4: 11 second index, heads up
Class 5: 10 second index, heads up
and so on.
We can also do a quick 8 or even quick 16 if enough people are interested. I would like to do qualifying NHRA style so the fastest 16 cars (or 32 cars) in each heads-up class will race each other, and #1 will face #9, #2 will face #10, etc (adjust accordingly for 32 cars).

Sounds like a great idea! I was wondering what happened to this? Just an FYI Super Bowl is Feb 7, 2010 so you want to probably avoid that weekend. I definitely think there should be an all out Quick 8 or 16 class too. Hopefully my new combo in the Trans Am will be ready by then. Let me know how I can help.

I don't see it being a problem.
Let me know what I can do to help out.
We can also use the Invasion mailing list to let people know.
Make sure to hand out flyers at Irwindale weekly.

I will need someone to design some flyers, but Irwindale is too far for me to drive every Thursday.
The Winternationals are going to be the same weekend as the Super Bowl then, so I'll make sure to stay away from that weekend. Anything after that will probably interfere with the track's NASCAR race, anyway.
We will have to worry about wind and rain during those dates.
What I really need is lots of sign ups so I can show my bosses at Manley and get them to sponsor the race. Do we have any Ford or Dodge people here who can help spread the word?

I think I'm going to go with January 30th.
Remember its going to get dark early at that time.
So who is on Ford, Dodge and Buick GN message boards that can help get the word out?
Can someone design a flyer to pass out?
Can someone help with a website?

Some rules I thought up:
Electronics, delay boxes, throttle stops, cross over boxes, etc, or any other kind of staging or launching devices are NOT allowed. You can use your left foot, and your right foot. You can use datalogging computers, as long as its strapped down per NHRA rules. Two-step rev-limiters, trans brakes, etc, are ok.
Heads up breakout rule: Lets say you're running in the 12 second heads up class. If you run 11.980 you're ok, but if you run 11.979 you've gone too fast and broke out. Are you ok with that or should the grace be raised or lowered?
Registration will be $55 before December 1st, and $60 on or after December 1st. I'll put up an address to send money as soon as I have the track rental deposit and the date reserved.
I hope to have open qualifying in the morning from 9am until 12pm or so. You can get as many qualifying runs as you can during that time. Then we'll break for lunch and start eliminations after that.
Domestic or Import bodies are ok, but engines must be domestic with EFI power. Factory or aftermarket ECM is ok.
You are responsible for making sure your car passes NHRA tech for the ET you plan to run. This link will help: http://www.nhra.com/competition/etquickref.aspx
Helpful comments or suggestions are always welcome.
Englishtown in New Jersey puts on something like this, and it looks successful:

I hope this event is successful too.

Are you thinking about an all out stock supsension class? Something with a tire size and type limitation like a any drag radial up to 315 and a True 10.5 slick? Just curious?

If I do a quick 8 it'll be the fastest 8 cars who show up, run what you brung.
I could make it "no back-half cars" but at this point its wide open until I see the type of cars and people that are signing up.
