Whether you’re a fan of GM’s marvelous electronic aids or not, you have to hand it to the General. Just a few years ago such mods were relegated to the bench racers’ day dreams. What is Launch Control and No Lift Shift in the ZR1 Corvette and the ZL1 Camaro? Well, for brevity’s sake, Launch Control allows users to select the road surface, (wet or dry) mat the gas, pop the clutch and let the electronic gizmos manage maximum acceleration–oh yeah, with full exhaust, it also sounds pretty wicked. As for No Lift Shift, it’s simply that; leave your throttle foot to the wood as you row the gears and the computer automatically manages the revs, allowing for quick up-shifts.

The question isn’t if an experienced driver in optimal conditions can beat such nannies, because they likely can (but not by much), it’s about the average Joe on standard street surfaces. And in that scenario, I’d bet my bottom dollar on the acceleration nannies every time. Like we said, you might not be a fan, but I’ll be the first to admit that I am! Bravo, GM. Hats off to you for creating small, but effective additions to your performance cars–it’s what helps set them apart.

As for the video, watch as the crew at 1320Video show us both the Launch Control and the No Lift Shift in a stock ZL1 Camaro and in a modified Corvette ZR1 that’s pullied for 15psi and sporting a full exhaust system.
