’64 Impala Hangs It Sideways Against a Toyota Supra

By -

Yes, that really is your grandpa’s ’64 Chevy not only drifting, but beating a Toyota Supra.

When it comes to tire smoking antics, a classic Chevy muscle car isn’t a bad choice. It’s got rear-wheel drive, a V8 engine, and, if you’re lucky, a functional posi-trac rear end to keep both rear wheels spinning. Of course, when your muscle car turns out to be a 1964 Chevy Impala sedan, and burnouts turns into sideways drifting antics, the story usually changes a bit.

Well, not this time, because we have found a video of a ’64 Impala throwing down on a Japanese circuit, drifting with the best of them. The best of them, in this case, being a MKIV Toyota Supra with 2JZ power. This video, posted to Facebook by group “Fitted” has absolutely blown up in popularity.

Naturally, you would assume that the heavy Chevy would just fall over in the very first corner. Think again. Not only does the ’64 hang it out, but the driver ends up overpowering the Supra driver in the back half of the course, powering away to a solo run afterwards.

What else is there to say, other than “wow.”
