Bold Thief Steals C8 Corvette In Broad Daylight

Stolen C8 Corvette Stolen from Chevy dealership

With a dealership employee standing just feet away, this insane ‘customer’ puts his foot to the floor of this C8 and drives off without a care.

It’s no secret that getting your hands on a C8 Corvette is a difficult task. Some owners are waiting months on end with no definitive delivery date. Furthermore, the worldwide microchip shortage only further delayed the C8’s production. Frankly, there are a lot of ways getting your C8 can go. However, if you’re truly desperate, there is an option that will expedite the process. Unfortunately, though, you may not get to keep it long. You’ll be able to take full advantage of the old “drive it like you stole it” adage, though. If that sounds good to you, well, it probably shouldn’t. However, if you’re looking for an example, here’s a great one!

Motor 1 brought this wild story to our attention. One interested C8 Corvette “shopper” took to a Chevrolet dealership in Virginia. We can only assume he asked to start the C8 to check it out when a sales representative was showing it to him. This is pretty standard. However, it takes a bit of a turn. The assailant seems to have locked the doors with the car running, as the salesman attempts to open the door after the C8 moves a few feet.

The salesman even wags his finger at the thief as if he were a child. Though, like with most children, it didn’t do much. Our not-so-crafty or clever thief then simply drove off, seemingly without a care in the world. This isn’t a wild and thought-out grand theft auto operation like you’d see in Gone in 60 Seconds. However, it’s so bold and simple that it’s remarkably effective.

Not-So-Fantastic Getaway

One can only imagine the wild police chase that ensued. With the mid-engine C8 Corvette’s zero to 60 time of just 2.8 seconds, you have to believe it turned into a corner carving, traffic weaving nightmare, right? Wrong.

We like to think the thief had the same line of thought we did. Things like “there’s no way this actually worked, right?” come to mind. At any rate, it seems like our thief’s plan stopped just after the whole “steal the Corvette” portion.

The driver made it only a block away before being apprehended, and the car was returned to the dealership. Whether you’re more satisfied with that outcome or would prefer a little more flair, you have to admit it is a bold play.

At any rate, if you happen to be in the market for a C8 Corvette, you may be able to try to convince this dealership to take a few dollars off the price of this Red Mist Metallic C8 coupe with black racing stripes. After all, it has been driven a bit!

Overall, this story ends with a decently happy ending. The car is back in possession of the dealership. Unfortunately, we don’t have a definitive answer as to what happened to the renegade daytime thief. However, since the vehicle was returned and free of damage, he likely walked off with a slap on the wrist.

If you’d like to see the moment the car disappeared, take a look at the below video to see the thief driving off with it.
