Cadillac CTS-V V3 Becomes First to Crack 8-Second Barrier

By -

After numerous attempts, this F1A ProCharged CTS-V finally runs an 8.90 at full weight.

It’s not like anyone would ever accuse any generation of the Cadillac CTS-V of being slow. Since the beginning, these LS-powered beasts have offered up sports car-like performance with supple luxury. And as we frequently see on the streets and the track, they’re quite capable of doing more. A lot more. So it really should come as a surprise that this rather stock-looking 3rd-gen CTS-V is the world’s first to crack the 8-second barrier.

Of course, that magical number didn’t come easily. This video from Mexico Racing League kicks off with our Caddy driver ripping off a 9.0 pass, coming ever so close. We’re told that he’s been trying to get in the 8s for some time now, and coming up that short is no doubt aggravating. The key, he believes, is to shave his 1.5 60-foot down into the 1.4s. So he makes a few adjustments and gives it another try.

That little bit of tweaking paid off immediately on the next pass. The CTS-V went 8.90 at 159 mph, a huge improvement. And sure enough, our driver got his 60-foot down to 1.48, which was exactly one-tenth better than the first try. Even better, he did it at full weight and with a full interior, with an F1A ProCharger and exhaust delete.

Pretty amazing stuff, but we’re certainly getting used to seeing this sort of stuff from the CTS-V. They’re just so darn good, even if they are a bit heavy. With some drag radials, this one plants and goes as well, undoubtedly assisted a bit by all that weight. Now, we’re just looking forward to seeing how much this world record-holding Caddy can improve with time.
