Cadillac’s Third Gen CTS-V Is In-Your-Face Fast

By -

“This is a four-door Corvette, so get me to the twisties!”

The CTS-V is an All American Badass, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s big, it’s fast, and it’s got supercharged V8 grunt. Not only that, but it also has the ability to tackle a corner or two, in what many people feel is a typically un-American fashion. This may well be the best all-around performance car Cadillac has ever built. You don’t have to take it from GM fanatics like us, you can just check out this video review from Road/Show by CNET.

The reviewer in this video describes the CTS-V as Jason Statham, and while perhaps an American action star [Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne?] might be more apt, the idea stands. This is a car that looks great in a suit but has shown up to roundhouse kick the competition right in the face. If you think BMW’s tiny turbo V8 M5 can do what this car does, go soak your head. This Cadillac will deliver more power than you’ll ever need while cossetting you in the ultimate lap of American luxury. Yeah, okay, CUE still sucks, but you can overlook that, right?

With a Corvette Z06-derived LT4 engine, this is a pretty great powerplant. Unfortunately, that amazing engine is only mated to an automatic transmission, where the joy of earlier CTS-V was the big power and three pedals. It is a pretty good automatic, to be fair. As an enthusiast, can you overlook the automatic transmission to truly enjoy a CTS-V? We say it is possible.
