Rad Rides by Troy’s 1987 Camaro F87 features fighter jet-inspired styling and a raging 1,600 horsepower small block.

The third-generation Camaro holds a special place in most of our hearts, mainly because a lot of us grew up owning at least one of them. These days, we look back at that particular generation with much adoration, of course, but also the realization that they were cheaply made and underpowered. Thankfully, a little wrench turning can solve those problems, and we’ve seen some pretty amazing builds that have done just that. One of the coolest, however, comes to us from the famous father and son operation known as Rad Rides by Troy, which built this amazing 1987 Camaro F87 as perhaps the ultimate iteration of the third-generation F-Body.

Rad Rides by Troy conceived the 1987 Camaro F87 for its owner Joe Lendway, who just so happens to be an engineer for General Motors. Lendway has owned this 1987 Camaro since it was new, amazingly enough, but has modified it a lot over the years, trying out different engine swaps and other modifications along the way. He eventually teamed up with Troy Trepanier of Rad Rides by Troy to conjure up its ultimate transformation, and this is the end result.

Many of the design cues present here were inspired by other vehicles, such as IMSA racers of the 1980s and 1990s, Mercedes and BMW race cars, and the Lockheed Martin F22 Raptor Stealth Fighter, which is where both the car’s “F87” moniker and active rear wing were derived from.

This particular Camaro certainly has enough power to get it moving like a fighter jet, thanks to its twin-turbocharged 441 cubic-inch small block V8 that reportedly cranks out an incredible 1,600 horsepower. That monster mill is mated to a built GM 4L85E transmission, while a host of suspension modifications aim to put it to the ground, including a modified C5 Corvette front setup with DSE coilovers, as well as a four-link out back with a Watt’s link and a Mark William’s modular rear end.

Ripe with incredible details and tons of metalwork and various other types of fabrication, this custom Camaro is easily one of the most impressive we’ve ever come across. It’s truly a fighter jet for the roads, and a build that’s unlike anything else out there at the moment.
