Chevy S-10 Xtreme with 2,000 HP Lives up to Its Name

Chevy S-10 Xtreme

We’ve seen all sorts of cool builds in the LS1 Tech forums, but this mega horsepower Chevy S-10 takes the cake.

For a variety of reasons, the humble Chevy S-10 has become massively popular among drag racers. This lightweight, compact pickup may lack weight over the rear tires like most trucks, of course. But modern chassis components help balance things out, and it’s almost too easy to stuff a modern V8 in these things. And as we can see from LS1 Tech member LLLosingit and his Chevy S-10 build, the sky on these pickups is truly the limit.

“Around September/October of 2016, I started the search for a single cab S-10 Xtreme. After searching high and low, I finally found one. The truck was a super clean 2003 2.2-liter, 5-speed, and black. It’s been garage kept the majority of its existence. I picked it up for $2,000. Daily drove the truck around for about a month, then the disassembly began. I picked up an entire tubular front clip and core support as well.”

Right off the bat, we knew that this Chevy build was serious. The OP’s plans were to stuff the diminutive pickup with a twin 88mm turbo’d 427, which he hoped to crest the 2,000 horsepower mark with. So the first step was to rip the entire truck apart, fit the new front clip, and remove all the factory wiring. Shortly thereafter, the OP takes a road trip to pick up his healthy new motor.

“The build literally started because I just decided to jump in my truck one late November Saturday morning and drive down to Summit in Ohio and buy an LSX block. Gotta start somewhere right!?”

The 427 was built by Billy Briggs, stuffed with some serious components and topped with Trick Flow heads. It’s been set up to run on either alcohol or E85. The former for track use and the latter for the street. Either way, we’re pretty sure it’ll get down the road just fine. To ensure the little Chevy pickup can hook, the next piece of this puzzle was a set of double beadlock wheels from Weld and some Mickey Thompson E.T. Street rubber.

Fabrication continued as the OP mocked up the engine fitment and turbo placement. And honestly, is there anything cooler than a pair of huffers sticking out of the grille? It might kill the sleeper appeal of this truck altogether, but the massive rear tires already took care of that. From this point forward, the build essentially went along as parts began to arrive. Including the installation of a digital dash from Holley.

After months of work, this Chevy S-10 is really coming along and getting closed to being finished. Just about all of the parts are in hand, and they’re in the process of being installed. So be sure and head over here to catch up on what’s been done so far, as well as what’s coming in the future. Because this is one build you certainly won’t want to miss!
