The LS motor is still king of the motor swaps, but if you really want to build an old-school car or truck, you should be using a more classic motor. The carbureted Chevy 350 splits that perfect line of modern reliability and power with that vintage look, sound and feel. For those folks, Chevy has the ZZ family of crate engines, and it just unleashed the most powerful version ever. The ZZ6 motor was unveiled last year at SEMA, but it’s finally ready to ship.

For $8,500 you can get a turn-key unit that comes built with a carb that features a custom air cleaner that matches the valve covers. That sexy black coating with the silver Chevrolet logo and Bowtie will look perfectly at home in that Chevelle project you are working on.

Power from the Z66 is rated at 405 horsepower with torque sitting at 406 lb-ft. The extra grunt comes thanks to some modern improvements like Fast Burn cylinder heads and special valve springs that were borrowed from the afore-mentioned LS. But we won’t tell anyone if you don’t.
